Have a Heart~ or Not?

You know the old country shelves,
the ones with cut out hearts.

I had many in my country style decorating days.
A few are still around and this one I use in my back staircase landing.

It has been a work horse,
useful and a great display piece
fitting perfectly between the narrow spot beside the closet
and below the decorator's gallery.

But it was time for an upgrade and so the redo began.
Fresh and new with the lighter color paint.
Minus the dust!! LOL

Now here it is back in it's home by the back stairs.
Filled with vintage books and treasures,

however, it still has the heart.

I love hearts and have always decorated with them
but just not enjoying them on furniture any longer.

So back to the studio I go to find a way to cover the heart.

Using a stripe of burlap,
And a small graphic from the Graphics Fairy~
With a little paint floated for aging,
Next a few strokes with a sharpie~
Centered on the burlap and hot glued in place,
Sealed with a coat of Triple Thick over  the Graphic.
Next, I placed it over the heart cut out and glued in place.
Completed and in place,
with a fresh new look.

From the top of the stairs looking down.
Above the closet is a decorator's gallery
with window.

My grandmother's vintage Singer sewing machine is displayed here
along with my grandfather's shoe molds.
(he was a shoe designer from Italy)
No wonder I love shoes. LOL

Anyway, I added a few old spools and vintage school books from the 1930's.

In the end,
I think I had a heart
to keep the shelf
and give it a  new look.

Now I am getting ready for family house guests.
They will be arriving shortly.

I 'll be visiting you when I can.
Thank you for stopping by.

Happy Springtime!
