Chalk Board Art

I love chalk board art!
Recently I worked on an old art print turning it into a chalk board.

This piece started out like this.

The print is pretty but I was ready for a new look.

So I painted the surface out in chalk board paint.
Primed it with chalk over the entire surface, then wiped it off
making it ready for writing with chalk.

Then using  a mix of stencils, graphics and free hand design,
I created the surface to be displayed at the top of our staircase
going to the guest rooms, for a Paris hotel like look.

Here it is in place on the landing to the second floor.

I am happy with the way it turned out with chalk.
But next time, I'll be creating something like this using
a chalk pen.
These can be found at art shops and on Amazon.

They simply write with a chalk look but without the chalk dust
and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Love that idea.

There you have it, using stencils and filling in the design with chalk.
Did you know you can sharpen chalk with a large sharpener?
Yes, you can and it makes it easier to use on these designs.
But next time, I'm  trying the chalk pen.

I'll let you know how it goes.

See you next time!
