Looking For Spring~

Happy March!!

At this point, I think we are all ready for
springtime and fresh new flowers
We have warmed up nicely and even enjoyed a day reaching 80 degrees.
My rose garden is still a ways from sharing pretty blooms
but I know they are coming soon.
In the meantime,
I have brought a little spring inside
while we wait.

powerful; it is better to have self-control
then to conquer a city.

Roses, although silk, are a hope for spring.

There is a time for everything,
a season for every activity

our hearts fill with joy in a beautiful day.

Going South~

Welcome to another

Looking back on my trip to
The Silos
at
Magnolia Market,
I found some great country side scenes.

Like this one~
Goats enjoying life and grazing away!!

Barbed wire fencing that seemed to go on forever.

A few took a moment to look up and say hello.

Then went right back to mowing the pasture!!

This is not the fence the goats are behind,
but thought this up close fence was interesting
to see how it was made.

I was really trying to capture a shot of the deer running through the field,
but this deer was too fast for me to get a good photo.
So the fence design will have to do.

Thinking Spring~

With our warm Texas weather lately,
I can't help but
THINK SPRING!

What does that mean??
For me,
it means decorating and giving the rooms a freshen up.
Well,
along with doing just that most of our mild winter,
now it means,
changing up color by adding  accents.

That's been the ease for changes since going neutral
in the background of each room
with paint color and window treatments.
I had to learn this about myself over the years.
Being a decorator,
I like to change things up a lot.
So having a neutral canvas
works best and allows me to work the accents for change.
Even wall decor can be changed out!!

Here in my dining room,
I start by giving the table a lighter look.

My dear friend Sue (she doesn't have a blog) who has been my adopted sister
for years and years,
gave me a pretty cake plate pedestal for Christmas.

I love the galvanized look and the gorgeous plate that came with it.

When I'm not serving something yummy on it,
I give it another look
adding a nest, vines and a pretty bird.
This makes the perfect centerpiece.
I can even weave ribbon around the edge for a different look.
At times I pop a cloche on the top too.
The ideas with this piece are endless.

Then, for my birthday coming next week,
Sue gifted me with a pretty set of
Waverly Dishes
in the basket weave pattern
along with 4 lace place-mats.
The little vintage rose bowls, I already had
and added them for a pop of spring color atop the salad plate.
The stripes around the rim of the bowl, are black.

Love the basket weave pattern.
And
Notice under the salad plate
is a candle ring of greens.
I brought these back from
Magnolia Market and The Silos.
Joanna on Fixer Upper has shown these many times
on the show when setting a table.

The layering of the plates with the ring
is such a fresh farmhouse touch.

Thank you Sue, I love this set and the place-mats!!!

Lace napkins pulled through simple grapevine wreaths
add another element of nature
and
coordinate with the centerpiece.

To a chair or two,
I sometimes add a pillow.

This is one I created adding
my grandmother's crocheted lace to each side
and
a pretty doily I hand painted with a single rose
sewn in the center of the pillow.
This designs plays off the pretty rose bowls.

To this corner,
it was time to change out the pillow shams I use on this chair.
Using a simple place and tuck, ( a difficult technique) lol~
I can change out the look with the seasons on this chair.
This set is a red toile with cream background.
To my tall French metal pitcher,
I added a few long stem magnolia leaves.
This is another find brought back
from Magnolia Market at The Silos.
They look so real.
I have a Southern Magnolia Tree
and holding these next to it, you can hardly tell the difference
but these will stay green forever.
On a side wall going into the living room,
I added this wall and metal basket
filled with long stem cotton balls.
This sight fills me with sweet memories
from my time living in West Texas.
Again, another find from The Silos.

Now you know this room will change again before Easter,
but for now,
this transitional look is making me
Think Spring!!

We've enjoyed days of  near 80 degrees
but colder temps are predicted later this week.

Are you
Thinking Spring??

Have a great week
and
see you next time!

Room for Change, Decorating Cents

Do you remember these shows?
I enjoyed them both
as they covered a large variety of styles
and redesigns.
They've since long gone from TV
but they were inspiring while they aired.

I'm about to begin my own room for change
using my decorating cents!!!

If you visit me often
you know I'm always repainting something
when I can fit the process in
after I tend to the store
and fill the shelves with complimentary decor.

While I no longer sell my painted furniture pieces on line,
it gives me some new found time to
paint my home ideas.
Finding the time can be a challenge!!
However~~~
If something sits still too long,
it will get a makeover.
It's only paint right?
And
I've been swinging my paint brush
over the years to relove just about
every piece of furniture in my Texas Cottage.

Years ago I shared these next two pieces
from the 1940's
This style is Art Deco
with a mix of wood design and modern drawer hardware.

In fact,
this bedroom set was my parents wedding set from 1945.
I did try and sell it at one time,
but pulled away from that idea
and
just couldn't do it.

Look at the round mirror and rounded lines
of the style.

We've been enjoying this set
in a guest room for many years
and I left it alone.
Safe from my paint brush
thinking it must be left original.
It has begun to dry a bit from age~
so now it's time for a redesign
and
I know my mother would say.
Go For It!!

So after much thought
and keeping things neutral.

I will take inspiration from the
quilt I'm using for spring,
the chair I custom designed several years ago
and
replanted here in this quest room
from the living room,
and more inspiration from
the pillows I created and styled on the bed.

I'm really finding, keeping neutral backgrounds
throughout my home,
give room to change things up with accents.

Vintage bits and pieces will be a focus here
while I plan to leave the bed's
headboard and foot board
original for an anchor in the room.

Some time it's better~ not to paint everything.

Now the fun begins
and
I can't wait to share the completion soon.

Do you have a Room For Change
using Decorating Cents?

See you soon.

God Bless America Gate

Welcome to Good Fences.
It's Thursday again
and
with it comes another Texas Gate.

Love this one from Crawford, Texas

Notice the galvanized garbage can to the lower left~
It's marked UPS and Fed Ex.

A chicken and a rooster
greet with a
God Bless America and a cross on the flag.

Just another great gate from Texas.

Texas Bloggers Meet For Valentine's Day!

Hi Friends
and
Welcome to a special post
sharing  friendships formed in blogland.

We all know how special it is to meet our blog friends in person
and
for a group of us, near by here in north Texas,
we did just that last Thursday
for a Valentine's Day Luncheon

In Texas, we have formed a group of bloggers who share common interests
and
it all started last Christmas when
 Stacey from Poofing the Pillows
 created
The Christmas in Texas Blog Hop.

On our recent gathering we enjoyed a great time together
over lunch, conversation and fun.

Everyone brought a gift or treat to share with each other.
We all went home with a variety of goodies
which will surly be treasures to mark our get together!

Here's our table all set for the fun to begin.

And here we are, smiles all around!!

Hearts and Treasures

Anything with  hearts
has always been
very special to me.

 I don't decorate a lot for Valentine's Day,
because I enjoy hearts year round
among my treasures.
Vintage or new,
hearts are timeless.
Hands to work, Hearts to God

Keepsake treasures
fill the heart.
Forever Friends
Stitched by my mother,
near the end of her life.
Life is sweet,
enjoy a treat!
Love and Roses
Heart and Home
Grandma crocheted hearts
as she sang in Italian.
I can still hear her voice.
Lovely heart pin cushion
created by grandma's hands and heart
so many years ago.
Tokens of love
here and there.
My Sweet Guy who always holds my heart!
However you spend this Valentine weekend~
fill it with love.
Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day
Hugs,
Celestina Marie
