MAKING ROOM FOR CREATIVE STORAGE

For most of us, we can never have too much storage space. In my studio I am always trying to upgrade and find different ways to store all the many supplies it takes to create with. Unique jars, shelves, containers and even an old roasting pan to hold paint bottles. I love to be organized and keep clutter limited. At times, my room looks like a tornado has gone through it with stuff everywhere and glitter covering most surfaces. That's when I stop, regroup and clean up my mess just to start making a new one. I know many artists who create best in a mess. I am not one of those people. I have a need to keep things straight in order to be accomplished. This seems to work for me and I am always looking for new ways to keep my studio organized. So I thought I would share a few ways I use to hold creative supplies.

If you remember past posts of my creative space, you know I have a black toile decor taken from Inspiration in a Spring/Summer issue of Romantic Country 2007. The following year I redesigned mine, inspired from elements in Fifi O'Neil's toile studio. Since then it has changed a few times to meet my daily work load and needs.

Toile fabric skirt I made to hide the clutter under the work table. It is attached with velcro to easy remove when I need to get supplies underneath.

Chest of drawers I purchased from Hobby Lobby for a huge discount because one of the drawers had a crack in it. That's not a problem for me, a little distressed never hurts anything. The drawers hold ribbons, trims and other embellishments. On the top is the vintage lamp from my sweet friend Ann from Ann's Finds. I covered the unique square shade with toile fabric and it just adds a cozy feel to the room.

Recently I added this white wicker chair I found several years ago at a tag sale. Added a cushion and soft toile quilt with pillows for a cozy spot to read or take a break. I realized something about myself when I moved the room around to put this chair by the window. And, that was, I love to position a cozy spot by a window. I have done this in several places throughout my home. In this case, I can see those pretty roses dh planted.

Tall storage cupboards hold product and display a few favorite aprons.

Desk area where I blog and work on the computer.

Side of an old sewing machine where the drawers would fit. Turned on it's side and hung makes the perfect shelf to hold pretty treasures.
Old shadow box house that my dad made, now holds tons of paint bottles.

Pink wood tote to hold, what else, lots of pink paints!
Storage right under the work table to roll out when needed.
Lots of jar storage. Large jars hold trims and baby food jars hold gems, buttons and silk roses. Canisters hold more embellishments in a decorative way. While an old roaster pan painted pink holds more paints.

Victorian boot my mother made years ago holds sponge brushes.
Lazy susan great for brushes, pencils and other items used often.
Drawings of sweet Miss Beazy Lee.

The search for unique ways to store and organize will continue.

Where I paint~~

Where I blog~~

Blessed with La Job~

Do you have ideas for unique and fun storage using items you have in a different way? It is so much fun to give new purpose to old objects or collectible treasures.

Till next time, I'll be in the studio, with brush in hand.

Remember, leaving a comment enters you in my 100th post giveaway. Be an active blogger, be able to supply your address and leave a comment. Drawing will be May 9th and the winner posted on Mother's day.

Blessings and Blue Skies, Celestina Marie

Your Studio is eye-candy!! I too need a neat & clean place to paint. I can't stand clutter in my work space. I probably spend more time straightening it than actually working....LOL!!
Hope You have a Great Weekend!

I love your studio. Your studio and Fifi's were part of the inspiration for my office area in my studio, only I used red toile.

I love all of your creative ways to store your tools and pieces of your art.

I clean my studio after each project is finished. There is always broken pieces of china everywhere!

You truly are an INSPIRATION! Your room is just so lovely as are YOU and your creations!

We are so much alike too...right now tho, my room is a mess which I must get some order back into. And I too am always rearranging and looking for additional ways to store what I have. Thanks for showing us again your amazing room!!! It is just gorgeous!

Also, give your dh a hug from me. He has been such an encouragement to both DH and I. You both are just so kind and wonderful! I pray GOD's richest blessing over you both!

Hi Celeste!

Your studio is fabulous! What an inspiring place to create in!! I love the black & white theme and the toile is icing on the cake. You are so organized and I love all your methods of organizing. Great use of things many of us already have or could find at yard sales & refurbish.

My sweet sister, Nancy, made the same Victorian shoe for me! I was so surprised when I saw yours. I love mine and it is a real treasure from her. I miss her so much.

I can hardly wait to hug you dear Celete!! Sherry

Only 3 weeks!!

What a great way to use all the space in your room - it is so pretty and who doesn't like toile? Now that I have seen your studio I feel the need to get in mine and do a makeover. Thanks for the inspiration.

Great ideas, Celeste! ♥ Wow, what efficient use of space. i think that's the key isn't it? Thanks for showing us. The shadow box for a paint holder is the best! Wouldn't think to turn the paints on their sides like that... We need to extend our creativity to our organizing, eh? Love your whicker chair my the window. I love to sit by a window, too.

It's time for me to clean up my craft room again because I'm finding that I'm not crafting in my craft room! It just holds everything and then I bring what I'm working on out to the dinning room table and then it's a mess, too. I let my craft rooms tables get too cluttered to use! I know there's a solution and I think it's called diligence!

Thanks for the inspiration!

Well, there you are! I've stopped by a couple of times this week so I knew you were knee deep in paint or crafts of some kind.
I loved the tour, Celeste. It's hard to keep things need in the middle of a project, isn't it! Little bits of this and that all over the place. I have to stop frequently and clear away the debris. Like you, I think better and work better in an organized space. Yours is truly lovely!

Love your space and the colors. I could spend all day there painting and creating. Looks much better than my small kitchen closet turned art supply/studio/hide my mess. Oh' and the dreary basement for larger projects.

Have a happy day

Hello Celeste, wow your so organized there in that beautiful craft room. I like to work in a neat organized place too. I just made 20 tags for a chruch event and boy did I have a mess after that. I'll be posting pics of that stuff on Monday. I'm trying to get more organized here, I do use some of the same organizing items that you use. I like the idea of having all your pink paints together. I might do that with mine. I've just started seperating my sewing room from my craft room, too much stuff in one room. I have alot of sewing supplies and stash over the years. Your painting is beautiful! Love the pink with the black toile also!
Bless you, Shirl

Hello again Celeste, I had to stop back to tell you that I love how you make a cozy little area with a chair by a window. I love that too and try to make a little setting like that in every room.
To answer a few questions that you asked. Yes that little Faux cake that Jen made me is a box and it does open. Thank you so much on your sweet comment on my ocean front window. It makes me smile everyday. I miss the ocean so much since moving to WV, in NJ we were only a 45 min. drive to the beach. I have not posted pics of my Americana bath yet but I'm going to start it next Monday on a Blue Monday post. I will do it in three parts since I have so much in that room. Alot of needlework since I love Americana so much. Thank you for asking and I appreciate you giving me advise on the color of paint to use.
Love ya, Shirl

I love your studio. Everything is so organized.

I have a unique idea for storage but it won't work for everyone.

I recently purchased a new plasma TV and decided I didn't want to use my bulky entertainment center anymore. It's nice but rather bulky. I moved it into my craft room and use it for storage. The section for the stereo and components is used to store supplies, books and larger tools. I put plastic rolling carts in the space where the TV would go. The space under the TV with doors stores my many pads of scrapbook paper.

Mine is made of really nice oak but I'm very tempted to paint it in some kind of cottage style. I'll probably end up doing that at some point but it's huge and heavy and I don't want to move it (boo-hoo).

I'm also having a giveawy so pop over to my blog and click on the Martha Stewart book at the top of my blog!

Blessings,
Christine

My Dear Celeste,
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving such kind comments. I always love to hear from you. Your work space or studio is sumptuous. It is surely a pleasure to work in that space. So organized ...just grand and the black white is splendid. I use old ice boxes to store paints and supplies. They are painted jadeite green and ivory and restored by my husband. I have them in the kitchen. I wish I had a studio.
Take the best of care.
Love an hugs,
