Painting Office Chairs and Under Construction

Thank you for your sweet comments on painting my piano.  It was a hard decision for a piece that holds so many wonderful memories and very vintage, but I am really loving it and the light it brings the room.

Painting my studio office chairs was one more thing on my list to finish last week and here is the outcome.  Having two black, not so pretty office chairs needed a cottage cream redesign to go along with my new and improved studio.

Here are the before  chairs~
Comfortable yes, pretty? not so much.  At least not now. In the past with my design they did okay, but I really love them now.

Using flat interior cottage cream paint, I painted three coats to each chair.  Then I varnished them with a gloss waterbased finish. Let dry, and ready to use.

The varnish step is important for durability, cleaning when needed and to keep the finish from scuffing.   For the legs, I recommend priming first before painting with either a Kilz primer or Glass and Tile Medium.  The rolling feet may scratch if you keep the heels of your shoes on them, but easy to touch up if needed. They have not worn off for me and I usually step on the legs.

Here are the after chairs~
Just perfect for my new studio and I am loving the lighter look.  We are still under construction but nearly complete.  Here are a couple little peaks from the long work days.

Almost finished and I will be so happy for a break!!

Have a great week and see you soon.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

What a great idea! I have seen so many new ways to paint furniture these days - were you scared to take the leap? It looks really nice, can't wait to see the new studio.

Wow! Your chairs look wonderful! I love the color change and it's just amazing that you've painted them. I have one and it's very old and the back and seat are orange! Can you believe it? If I could get up my courage, I'd love to try this!

We are once again working on similar projects. I picked up a couple on Sunday to do over for each of the bedrooms.

Hope you are having a great week!

I would have never thought to paint those chairs. Looks fantastic.
I know about a break from the work. We still have things to do, but I think we are on a hiatus for a bit!!

Dearest Celestina Marie,

You are a very brave lady for doing such a job! They turned out nice and as long as the paint will hold, it's fine.
Wishing you a speedy finish of all the construction and a happy cleaning up.
Love to you,
Mariette

I love how the chair came out C! I've been incorporating some creams and off whites in our home as well. It's become the new pink I think. Lovely!! Hugs. T

Hi Celestina Marie! Your chairs ánd your piano look great! What a great idea and you've done it so pretty and neat! I wouldn't regret it in any way, but can imagine it's difficult to decide to paint such an old piece, but it's become so pretty! Oh how much you will enjoy your new studio in the future with the achieved light! Enjoy!!

Looking GREAT Celeste! I never knew one could paint an office chair! SOO cool. Hey, I came across two local artists here in GA that are extremely talented - one has an Etsy shoppe that is not doing so well and I think she just needs to know how to get with a good group of Etsy pals in her own artistic field like you have with your Cottage Etsy. Would you mind if I give her and the other talented artist your email address for any advice you might have for them around ETSY? Please be honest, I don't want you to have to feel like you MUST take the time to email them - I know you are VERY busy, but if you do have time, let me know and I'll send an email to them introducing you so they can connect with you to get any encouragement you can give them. Or pass on some experiences you've learned since starting your own Etsy Shop. Hugs friend...
