Winter Changes

Making décor changes
after the holidays
seems to be what we all love to do.

Nesting our way to a new fresh look
while waiting for spring.

I've been doing this a lot this season
and I catch this redecorating bug
every new year.

When the house is all cleared of the
Christmas décor
it looks so bare
and the perfect time,
having a clean and empty palette
to style in a new way.

I've moved tables and chairs around
from one room to another.
Changed wall décor from one
room to another.
Basically shopping the house.

I love seeing how an item takes on
a whole new look in a new spot.

To the left of the sofa,
I brought in this round vintage table
that I had in the master.
I love it here much better.
This table is 50 years old.
It was in my parents home.
It has a marble top
with wire on the door.
I painted it black with a little added distress.

On the other side of the sofa,
I moved this half table from the
family/library room and it is working
nicely here.

For the walls,
I left the window over the sofa for the winter
with the vintage pattern wreath
in the center.
I 'm in the process of creating a
rag wreath, but it's not complete.
To the left,
I hung a gorgeous fountain
my mother made in 1979.
I added glitter roses
with a black butterfly.
On the other end of this wall,
I found this Paris print
at the Good Will.
It had a gold frame,
so I gave it a neutral paint color
with a little distress
and
I love it with it's new look.
Across the room
is my vintage hutch turned entertainment center.

I added the vintage lace runner,
neutral pitches, and a gorgeous, now vintage,
pitcher and bowl created by my talented mother.
The lamps are miss-matched
in design, but the same height.
I added them after painting them white
and they blend nicely, although different.
The shades are the same
but will have a rag art trim soon.
I never had 2 lamps on this buffet top
and the change is working.

Here's that treasured piece hand created
by my mother
many years ago.
She loved white décor too.
I displayed this with my recent
platter purchase
from Rachel Ashwell's
Shabby Chic Couture.
They look like they were made to go together.

I found this lace runner
at a favorite antique market
some time ago.
It has been on the fireplace mantel
in this room.
Change was welcome here
by placing it on the hutch top.
These are the lamp shades on their way
to receiving a rag trim around the bottom.
I am working on it at the moment.
Pics to come later.

Moving around to the mantel,
it's more of a winter ~ in between look.
Black and white
not much color yet, just calm and peaceful
while nesting the winter away.
Bird houses
and snowbirds frame the ends
with candle sticks
and glass Swedish
snowball tea lights
in the center.

I left the mirror
in place after Christmas,
but may or may not
change it for springtime.

I don't  often display evenly,
as I prefer uneven displays
in odd numbers 3,5 or 7
(learning's from my days in interior design)

However, this works because the number of things
is an odd number not counting the mirror.

You know there are really no rules if you love it!!

Adding a bucket of boxwood
and
long stems of spring hopefuls
help to fill the space
by the fire.

Thanks for stopping by
to visit my few little changes.
More to share later~
but for now,
I have fabric rags to rip
for the lampshades.

See you soon.
Stay warm!
Hugs,
Celestina Marie

I love the black and white theme. Looks lovely. I have seen so many of the white pitchers through the blogging world and I have fallen in love with them. I think my next collection will be to start buying small ones for our dining room. Yours are so pretty.

Oooh Celeste, I love the changes you have made!... your window with the wreath on it is so pretty and I can't wait to see the rag wreath you will be making... will you be selling any of those in your shop?... I am so loving things made with pretty floraly shabby rags now... my parents had a table with marble on top similar to yours... they kept their record albums in it... now it belongs to my niece, with their albums still in there... the fountain your mama made is so pretty with the roses and butterfly!... and the pitcher and bowl are fabulous and they do look like they were meant to go with your gorgeous new platter from the Prairie... sounds like you have kind of a Prairie thing happening in there, I love it!... Can't wait to see the rag trim on your lamps... and your vase full of pink blossoms certainly is calling for Spring!... love it all!... xoxo Julie Marie

You've worked your magic yet again, Celestina! The table that belonged to your parents is a real treasure. I love the wire doors, they add so much character! I also am in love with your tres chic French print, hard to believe someone was willing to part with it! The pitcher made by your mom is so beautiful, and you are right, it looks like your platter was made to go with it:) Sounds like you are having too much fun nesting! Have a great week, and keep cozy!

So pretty, Celestina. I would never have known that those lamps were not a matching set. Amazing what you can do with paint. I always love seeing that beautiful hutch, and that piece of lace is gorgeous. What a treasure the pitcher and bowl made by your mother are, and you're right the RA platter is perfect with them. I've seen tables like the round one in resale stores, but this one looks so great painted black. I may have to think about purchasing one and painting it black. Thank you for all of the inspiration. laurie

Of course it all looks gorgeous, love Moms platter! See there is the decorator in you...Moving things around, us non decorators just put it and leave it!!! As far as my booth, I took what I wanted, marked the rest at 30% off and what does not sell by the end of the month is going to the thrift...There, sick of lugging stuff around lol!

What a wonderful room, Celestina Marie. It is just gorgeous. I love all the little changes you made. That is a great little table from your Mom that you painted black. I have seen a couple of those around here and there over the years and always liked them. I bet it was a fruitwood or pecan finish when you got it? Lovely in black!

Hope you have a great week. We are hunkered in here with wind chills up to 45 degrees BELOW ZERO tomorrow. All the schools are closed. xo Diana

Celeste,

How beautiful, and I love black and white. Your home always looks wonderful, but moving things around is so creative. That's because you are a decorator, I always worry that my staging is missing something. Love, love the idea of the window frame and wreath.

Have a beautiful day.
