Happy Memorial Day 2014

As we celebrate our nations hero's,
let us give thanks for their military dedication and safety.
We can never be thankful enough to those that serve America,
but we can lift our prayers for them each and everyday.

When you see a military person, take a moment and say thank you. The encouragement will honor them as they realize people care and remember.

My Father Joseph, fought for this country in WWII on Omaha Beach in Normandy France.
 He used to say,
"I wouldn't give you a nickle for my experiences, but, I wouldn't sell them for a million dollars either"

Words from a proud and glad to serve, American!
I dedicate this Memorial Day to him
and the bravery he carried as he jumped off the ship and swam to land on Omaha Beach with his fellow soldiers.
God was with him that day as he ran forward to defend America.

When I saw the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" many years ago now,
I realized what my Father had faced that day.
My thought was, wow Dad needs to see this movie,
then I quickly thought, he doesn't need to see this movie, he was there!

Whatever your long weekend plans, enjoy, be safe and REMEMBER!

In Remembrance and honor
to those brave men and women who have served our country to keep us free and to those that continue to sacrifice each and every day for America, we give our heartfelt thankfulness.

Happy Memorial Day
I'll be off the for long weekend.
See you on Tuesday!

Blessings and Southern DayDreams!

What a wonderful post and tribute to your Dad, Celetina. I had no idea that he was a WWII veteran. Yes, God was with him and protected him. Thanks to your dad and so many others, we have our freedom and can celebrate Memorial Day! Wishing you a wonderful holiday weekend!

Thanks to ALL the men & women who have fought for our country or protect our country while some go to the front lines. Thank you to your Dad for his great service to our country in WWII.

My Uncle also fought in WWII in Normandy and was there until the end where he was assigned to bury the dead in the concentration camps. It changed him in ways that he couldn't even talk about except to my oldest son that was going into the Army. Unbelievable stories he told him of valor, honor, sadness, killing, surviving, etc.

My pray is for young people to know what our military men & women have given up to keep our country free. Even if they didn't die in a war, they sacrificed part of who they were before fighting in it.

God bless the lives & souls of those who have fought the good fight in life.

Blessings, Edie Marie

This was always a special holiday to my Grandparents we always went to the graves and decorated them in remembrance
I think it's so sad the way our government is taking care of our hero's in the veterans hospital today, just no honor in anything seems like. The moral of this country has changed

Lovely post Celeste. And a wonderful, heart-felt thanks to all who fought and continue to fight for us. Your father, as well as my father (gone since 1992) served their country proud.

Love your new Banner! Very nice.

Hugs,
Jan ♥

Beautiful post, Celestina. My husband is a Viet Nam vet. during his recent campaign, his service was listed on his literature. We were surprised at how many people made a point of stopping him, after they had read his card, and thanking him for his service. He did win the election, so as soon as my brain recuperates, I'll be back to blogging. Thank you for sticking with me during some sparse blogging times. laurie

Bless you dear for writing this post. And Bless your father for his service. I hate wars and feel very fortunate that we have men, women and now dogs who give so much to keep us safe. I am reflecting on all they do this weekend. Nothing means more...no parties, no shopping, nothing! Blessings dear...

Hi sweetie Celeste! Oh, what a sweet post and tribute to your daddy. My daddy fought in WWII also. God bless 'em! We have so much to be thankful for, don't we? Love your sweet flowers and are they in a blue biscuit jar? If that's what that is, I have the same one.
Thanks for popping in to see me and for going along on my journey with me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Hello there Celestina Marie! Your father....what great memories of a man who was brave to serve. My own dad did not serve since he was an immigrant and became a citizen much later. Happy weekend and may the memories be sweet. Anita

Good morning Celestina Marie! Thank you for stopping by! Yes, Blogger has been very difficult at times, and my blog roll on my sidebar has been very inconsistent. Be well and I hope you are having a great spring! Anita

This is such a touching post! I watched hours of the history channel yesterday on WWII. What a terrible time and so many lives where lost! My 95 year old dad served in it too. We owe much to our veterans and the soldiers that lost their lives! May God bless them and America! Thank you for sharing your sweet thoughts with us!

This is a beautiful post, Celeste. A great reminder that there was a great price paid for the freedoms we enjoy daily.

By the way, as you may or may not know, I've become very lax with my classic film blog. I just got burned out writing about films all the time; in fact, reviewing films had taken all the joy out of watching them. So, I've taken a huge step back from that blog and have only posted 20 times this year, many of those being cut and pastes of old posts.

However, I found myself wanting to get back to "beautiful things" kind of blogging. I couldn't resurrect my old blog, as someone has taken over that URL. So, I've opened a new blog, called Magnolia Cottage, which you can access through the profile associated with this comment. (Not the profile on my classic film blog.)

Anyhow, I invite you to stop by.

Blessings to you.

Love,
Patti

I always thank the person wearing the cap that has "their war" on the brim. Once, last week, it was a Korean War vet and he got tears in his eyes. I think it might have been the first time he was ever thanked and that made me sad.
They can never be thanked enough.

Beautiful post and wonderful tribute to your Father. Mine flew PBY's for the Navy during WWII. The stories he told as he got older...wow. I have his handwritten log books, one of which tells all about one of their crashes. When I was selling his flight course manuals on eBay I had a guy ask me if I had anything personally written for a certain date (can't remember what is was) He knew the logs weren't for sale, but I took a photo of the page that he was interested in and emailed it to him. Not sure was he was looking for but he offered me $300 for them in his next email. I didn't sell them and would like to keep them for the kids --they like reading them every so often. Dad's gone now and he wrote like he talked so it's a piece of him they can nuzzle up with. That guy emails me once a year to find out if I'm ready to sell yet. I figure if I ever really do have to sell them, due to needing the money, they're going on ebay. Let them fight it out and hopefully get a nice bidding war going ;) Hoping that day won't come, but you never know.
Hoping you enjoyed your weekend!
