Creating a Helper Table

Recently I've seen work tables at World Market and other shops
that serve as helpers in studios, sewing rooms, laundry's etc.

So I got the idea I could use one in my studio to move around where needed
to hold items I am working on at the moment.

I happened to already have this vintage table in my stash.
It was the right height with a bottom shelf
and the perfect size to meet my idea.

As you can see, I was so excited to start redesigning
this table, I forgot to take a snap before I applied the first coat of modpodge.
But you get the idea how it looked before I started.

Brushing on the modpodge to the top shelf.

Once this step was complete, I applied
pretty papers to the top in a pleasing pattern overlapping
in a collage fashion.

The papers were a mix of sheet music, roses, French Script and postage stamps.

I like to use a roller to press out the air bubbles to get a smooth flat surface
when dry.

To the bottom shelf I painted it black, then distressed the edges
and gave it a coat of water based varnish to seal and protect the surface.

To the top I sealed over the papers with more of the modpodge.

Notice the little scrolls all around the sides of this vintage treasure.
Decided to paint those black to complete the look.

Love the scalloped edge around the top.
Perfect to add a piece of acrylic glass easily cut from Lowe's or Home Depot.
Just take in your exact measurements and they will cut the size you need.
I have done this for trays and it works great.

Now this little helper is ready to hold goodies for display when not working~

or treasures I am working on currently.

However this helper table needed one more thing to make it perfect.
Wheels on the little legs.

So my Mr. CMDesign added these white casters to the legs.
Now I can move this little helper anywhere
needed to hold whatever I am working on, serving, or displaying.

Creating a Helper Table
was as close as my stash of treasures!

Could you use a helper table on wheels?

Thank you for stopping by.
I love your visits and your comments are always welcome.

See you soon.

Make it a perfect day.

Gorgeous! I love the idea of a helper table, how often I could use one as I craft. And even better to have a work table that looks so pretty!

Celeste, you made this helper table shine! She is so pretty! I love the paper you chose for the top- it's swoon worthy! The black accents really set this table off. It's so romantic, but functional! Great job!

What an adorable table, Celestina! I am in love with the pretty papers and roses you decoupaged to the top. And the scroll work is so pretty too. Funny, as I was reading your post, I thought I would suggest to you adding wheels, but of course you beat me to it!:) I love the treasures you are displaying on it, and I am drooling over those pretty bottles you are working on! Love them!!

YOU are blowing me away with your designs, Celeste! I just found myself a little helper table a few days ago and I am loving it, but my little transformation on it is not as impressive as this! What you did with that Modge Podge and paper....LOVELY! Isn't this just the best time of year to get so creative!

Have a lovely day my friend. Anita

Such a great idea, Celeste! I love the wheels on it, too. You dressed her up beautifully. I wish I had room for a little helper table. I just use one of the tables in my small craft sewing room in that way, even though it wasn't meant to be. It works out because I can reach it from where I am sitting at the sewing table.

Celestina,
Thank you for taking time to visit me in Philadelphia today and leaving such a sweet comment. I think your name is very intriguing and lyrical. Your helper table is not only useful but creative and adorable too. Aren't scalloped edges just the best?! I look forward to sitting down and reading past posts of yours.

Love the little table!! I have a little cabinet on wheels in my sewing room...the top is wood and it has another piece of wood that I can bring up to make a bigger work area. It also has some open shelving on one end that I can display some of the piece that I've made.
hugs,
Cindy

Your helper table is so pretty...matches you and your personality. Now I don't know what that says about me, cause my helper table is all metal, no frills, and is very industrial looking. LOL!

I have never heard of a Helper Table, but I love the idea and I adore yours.

What a wonderful idea - I love it! I think the accent of black sets off the prettiness of the papers you used and it all combines to make something beautiful and unusual.
Another wonderful project Celestina - you are so talented!

Yes, I certainly could use one of these, and I very well may try to come up with one. It won't be as pretty as your table, but maybe it will be serviceable. I would never have thought to add the black, but the contrast looks great. After seeing one of your projects, I always think I might be able to make something beautiful out of nothing. You make it look much easier than it is. laurie

Everything is so beautiful. I especially enjoyed the lamp. I collect vintage doilies and tablecloths. I have a chandelier with 6 shades that I would like to try this craft on.
Your blog is wonderful, I would love to learn how to paint roses like you do. I painted some a few months ago but not as lovely as yours.
Thank you for sharing your great ideas.

Have the Best Day Ever!
