What Did You Do On Your Summer Vacation?

Remember those first weeks of a new school year growing up?
Being asked to write an essay of what you did or where you vacationed during the summer?

It seemed each year we were asked this question.
Each year we wrote of the fun activities we enjoyed near home or afar.
???are we there yet???

I've come to realize over the years, that the best vacations
can be right in my own backyard.

Oh I love to travel far away no question, but there are times when staying near by
can bring the best memories.

This year we did just that.
We vacationed in Texas.
Right here at the GayLord Texan  Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

A beautiful 1500 room resort under a glass dome ceiling
with the blue skies and sunshine right over head in every area.

Blue skies over head and comfortable temperatures to enjoy lots of walking.

Some of the gardens and water features I shared in my last post
are throughout the inside grounds and all along a river walk that runs right through the hotel.
Outdoors without the blazing heat of Texas.

I love this sculpture of the girl planting flowers.

The only hotel in the world with an indoor vineyard.

Wonderful restaurants, boutiques, shops, spas, pools, living rooms, entertainment and more
under one roof forming a city all it's own.

Here is the view of the Riverwalk Cantina.

Our room was beautiful with a living room, bedroom, bath and small dining room
along with a balcony overlooking the indoor river walk.
The day of our anniversary was celebrated at the indoor Italian Restaurant,
Zeppole Coastal Italian

The food was excellent and you can see in the upper right corner the grilled salmon and veggies
that I enjoyed. They even had gluten free breads and pastas. Perfect!!

We even met Hank the Texas Longhorn who greets people from all over the world.
~that's my hubby in the top left corner~

We truly relaxed and enjoyed  leaving the on line world behind  for a little while.
Sometimes we need to do that don't we?
Vacation un-pluged!!
A time to free ourselves from technology.
Really enjoy the world in person and not on a screen.

Oh it was a wonderful time and not far away.
We really can take vacations close by.

Have you ever vacationed close to home?
Do you prefer to travel far away?

I'll be back to share when we went into town
to visit the historic town of Grapevine.

Till next time~
Enjoy the last days of summer.

Hugs
Celestina Marie

I remember well writing those essays at school! As much as I love to travel, I also enjoy weekends away closer to home appreciating little corners of England. Your resort has so much to offer and an indoor vineyard - how unusual! The sculpture of the little girl is so charming.

My dear Celeste, what a wonderful place to relax .... thank you for showing those lovely pictures!
We did not do anything yet, perhaps we do something nice in autumn. At the moment, to much work, also in the garden, so we first will have our break later ;O)
Wishing you a wonderful weekend and sending Love and hugs,

Wow, what an amazing place to visit! I love that sculpture of a girl planting flowers, how sweet! We also enjoy trips close to home, there are so many places to discover right on our doorstep! However, later this year we are going far away... to Disney World in Florida!

What a beautiful getaway! We joined a local water park for the kids. That was their summer vacation ... except for trips to the beach. We hope to go somewhere this fall when the leaves start changing. I'll take the mountains over the beach anytime! We started school Monday. TGIF!!!

I can see why you loved it there so much, Celestina! What a gorgeous place, I've never heard of an indoor vineyard! How fun is that? Your room was so pretty. What a great place to unwind and unplug! We all need to do that more often! The fact that it was close to home made it even more of a treat! Was that bull alive???

Celeste,
I so do remember as a kid writing back to school essays about what we did on Summer vacation. With the beautiful photo essay and the sweet story told by you to highlight the vacation pics I felt I was there with you. Sometimes the most relaxing vacations can be found not to far away from home. After all it was the beauty and affection felt for the area that made you decide to call it home in the first place. John and I have taken a few mini weekend vacations right in our city becoming tourists of our own town!

Your anniversary vacation looks like it was a relaxing adventure full of fun things to do, love the happy smile on your face. Love the cow and statue too. Thanks for sharing your getaway photos.
XO,
Vera

That looks like quite a nice place to visit! I can well imagine it's nice to find a relaxing place to be indoors when it's so hit out. I live in a touristy town in northern Michigan where people come to vacation a lot. In the summer and fall it couldn't be nicer so it's kind of like vacationing all the time! We haven't truly taken a vacation on a long long time. Hope you got rested up.

Welcome home, you don't have to be far away to be far away. It sounds like the perfect anniversary! I often just go to the Florida beaches which could only be an hour away, but seems like a far away land. Actually it is less tiring to stay close to home!

Celestina, what a glorious vacation for you and your hubby. By the way, you are quite a beautiful couple.
Missed you, but what a time of refreshment for you.
We have so many beautiful places right in our own back yard here in Colorado, that we don't have to go far for a time away.
The Lord bless you and your hubby.

Glad you and your husband enjoyed such a wonderful vacation. I bet your time together was priceless. My husband was stationed in Houston and always raves about how beautiful Texas is. Hopefully one day I'll get to see it for myself.

It sounds like a wonderful vacation and a great way to spend your anniversary, Celeste. Happy Anniversary, btw! : ) We took a short vacation last year to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. While it is still in Ohio it is almost 4 hours away from where we live, so we stayed overnight. I would actually like to find some things/places to go in the nearby states. We are not far from Indiana and Kentucky and I'm sure there must be places there that would be great to visit.

Dear, dear Celeste. I cannot tell you how many times I've come to see you and was unable to leave a comment whether it was because I was on my phone or that my INTERNET SERVICE at home is not working! I am here at Barnes and Noble using their WIFI service, to catch up with the world and friends I love. Oh this summer was the best. I stayed home, but because of the rain, our gardens all around the area are just popping with great color and health. I start school on MOnday, so HERE WE GO....summer will be a memory for me.

So good to see you and your husband together! Much love, Anita

That looks like a Texas size hotel - beautiful.

I have only been to Dallas, for an education conference. I don't recall the name of the hotel, but it was amazing like this one.

This looks like a hidden jewel and a perfect place to vacation. We moved to Florida to be a couple of hours to some of our favorite beaches. Our favorite vacation is one close to home. Enjoy your week! Hugs!

Your vacation anniversary close to home looks amazing. How delightful to get away and yet not have the travel woes of so many logistics. Getting un-plugged is indeed a joy and allows us to recharge our own inner batteries. Lovely Blissful Get-a-Way...
