Remembering a Special Moment in Autumn

Many years ago, in the Autumn of the year, I recall a special time and visit from my mother.
She was always one to treat you to gifts upon a visit.

This particular Fall season, mom was coming home from an appointment
when she stopped along the way at a little boutique she thought looked interesting.
Browsing all the pretties in the unique shop,
she came upon a few apple dish pieces,
the last ones left in the shop of that design.

At the time, my kitchen was decorated in apples and any collectibles I could find found a place among my treasures.

The pieces mom found were an apple mug with sugar and creamer, pie plate and 2 votive cups.
So with the loving heart she always carried, she purchased the last of the stenciled apple line in excitement to gift them to me.
You can imagine my surprise when her gift was handed to me, wrapped so pretty, and given with a smile that always lit up a room.

I was thrilled to receive these apple treasures from my mother.
To this day they are treasures I hold dear.
Not because of the material value, but the sweet envision of my mother browsing the little boutique and finding a gift just for me.
She seldom purchased something for herself.
Always putting others first, with thoughtful and endearing ways.

I think of those special moments every Autumn season when I see a bowl of apples or browse a little boutique with a Fall display.
She was one of God's special angels and sent to earth to teach me how to live.
For this I always give thanks.

Today with cooler weather on the way and special moments in a very busy work week,
I'll take the time to relax, reflect and enjoy a mug of tea or hot chocolate, cider or vanilla coffee in my special apple mug.
Maybe I'll carve out some time to turn those apples into a pie.
I just might~~ but for sure I will remember special memories, mother and the joy of giving.

Thank you Mama, I love and miss you~

Hugs, Celestina Marie

Oh so sweet- what a lovely post. My mom is still with us, but the days of her going out and finding things for us are gone. I miss her in that way because she was generous in a similar way like your mom and it always brought a little sunshine with it. I have things about me that she gave and they remind me of her which I love. Hugs, Liz

That is the best thing that came with those apple dishes, Celeste - the memory your mother left with you of her! I think that is the most wonderful memory and story. Your Mom sounds like she was a very loving and thoughtful person. I'm sure it gave her great joy to gift you with something she knew was so simple but that would bring a smile to your face.

Beautiful Celeste! I saw this lovely post early this morning off my phone, but I have a hard time commenting off my phone, so here I am after school at home.

This post resonated so much with me, because I still have a few items that my mother gave me that when I look at them, I weep. It is not the object itself, but the memory of her, as being an angel who only thought about others. When I arrived in Los Angeles from Boston to stay with her, I got home that night, seeing her in her bed and cancer-ridden. She was in intense pain, but never once complained. The first thing she said to me was, "Oh m'hija (my daughter), look in the closet. There's a brown bag...I made something for you." I opened the bag, and it was a little plastic dolly with a crocheted hat and sweater. Heck, I'm tearing up just writing about it.

The moment before she passed, she took off her wedding ring, remembering she had promised me when I was five that it would be mine when she died. To the end, giving was her concern.

Enjoy the memories, and this Thanksgiving as for each one, we have SO much to be grateful for.

Celeste, what a precious memory of your mom! I lost my mom 24 years ago on October 26th. It seems like yesterday and yet so long ago. I know exactly what you mean about treasuring those special items your mom picked for you! It's definitely the sweet memories and not the "things". I know your mom is smiling down on her precious daughter with love and pride! Sending you many blessings! You're such a blessing to all of us!

Beautiful post, Celeste. The moments we live today, and how we choose to live those moments, are the memories and the inheritance we live to others. I pray that God continues to make me very mindful of this, for each act of kindness, every word of affirmation makes a difference.
I think I must have some of that vanilla coffee too, and now, of course, each time I see an apple I'll think of you. ;)
xoxo
Thank you for your lovely words at my new page.

Hello Celestina, had not visited for quite a while. I am always so busy that don't even have time to update my blog. Taking care of my husband Rick, and meals to plan, house work, shopping for groceries and still making items to sell, now it's jewelry. So stopped to visit for a little while and found this post about your angel mother. Mine is always on my mind and this post touched me very much. I think some of us are so lucky to have been so close to our angel mothers that sometimes I feel that I can just go upstairs and talk to her then I realize oops, she isn't there, so I talk to her picture. Blessings my friend...Lu
