Small Mantel Decorating

Happy October!

Our library/family room has a small
wood fireplace with a pretty mantel.
It makes the room so cozy to read or watch TV.

I have  painted this wood piece many times,
and  recently I gave it a tone on tone redo
and we are really enjoying it.

Above the mantel, I have a Tuscan Countryside painting and a header that fits perfectly to the size.

To the mantel top I added a garland with small tiny lights running through it
all across the entire length.

I love to decorate with vintage books for lifts and interest. They add so much charm.
Here I have two books from my mother's school days.

One of my favorites is a little wood box filled with nuts and acorns and small natural elements.

To one end, (I like things off center)
is a tall vase my son gave me filled with soft berries.
I also like to group treasures in odd numbers
for a pleasing look.

In front of the vase, but hard to see in this pic,
is a pair of black marble candlesticks,
a special gift from a dear friend.
One stands and the other is placed on it's side.
Treasures don't always have to be standing to be interesting.

The tiny lights give such a soft nighttime glow.

Perfect to curl up and watch a good movie.

Do you enjoy to decorate a mantel or shelf?
Perhaps a sideboard or buffet?
The same design ideas can be used for all.
This mantel is approx. chest level and so easy to get a cozy display.
Higher mantels can be more formal but still fun to style.

For this design, I have used just what I have and the only fall decoration was the garland
and small fillers for the box.

In the firebox I have faux Luminerie candles on timers.
They look real and add so much to the room without adding the heat.
No warm fires here yet, it's still too hot!!

Well, now I think I'll grab a cup of tea and snuggle up with a good read!!

I'll share my living room mantel soon.

See you next time.
Have a great fall day.

Smiles,
Celestina Marie

Good Morning, Celeste. I really love this. The fall colors, natural elements and soft lights along with your mom's books are perfect together. We opted not to have a fireplace in this home but I do have a waist-high half-round table in the entrance hall that I could do something similar with. Wish you were here to help me group things together. I have many treasures but no idea how to mix and match them!

Celestina,
Yes, to decorating our mantel and credenza/sideboard. Love seasonal changes. I too prefer off center, it adds a touch of softness and approachability to the room. Your Autumn display looks beautiful. I especially enjoy the look of that little box filled with Fall touches. Personally I find acorns adorable and also use them in displays. Vintage books always look gorgeous as lifts.
Wishing you a fun filled day!
XO,
Vera

Your mantel looks so warm and attractive and creates a lovely ambiance when lit in the evening. The little box filled with natural items is a lovely touch too. I tend to group things in threes. I think I once read about odd numbers somewhere and it does seem to work!

I was just thinking of you and how beatufiul all of your decorating always is. This mantel is exactly what I love...simple, gorgeous and using what you have. The little lights make it magical. Creative Autumn Bliss Dear...

I love the lighted garland, Celeste! It adds a lovely glow to your mantel in the evening. It is also still a bit too warm here for any fire in the fireplace, but that's okay. Right now the Fall colors and dƩcor are warming enough. Tomorrow will be our warmest day in recent weeks - 80 and humid. Then it drops drastically and will really be feeling like Fall!

Hi Celeste! Oh, I just love what you've done with your beautiful mantel! The garland with the lights is so pretty! It takes a knack to decorate a mantel and this is just lovely - you have the knack, my friend! :) The picture and everything around looks just perfect.

Hi Celeste!

I love decorated mantles! Yours looks so fabulous! It's the one thing I miss, my mantle. There's no mantle on our fireplace here so I resort to my buffet for seasonal and holiday decorating. It has it's limits but I'll take it! The soft lighting is so lovely at night. Every detail you've included on your mantle is perfect Celeste. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful touch of fall!

Love & blessings, Edie
