Welcome a New Year and New Beginnings!

This time of year always has me ready for a fresh start. With the temps cold and wintry, I love to begin changing things around inside the house and I've been reading in your blog posts you are doing the same. The Christmas decor is put away and it is the perfect time to rearrange the rooms and rethink our spaces.

I am loving a less is more style with a clean minimal look.
LJ brought me roses on my mother's birthday the 3rd of Jan.
She would have been 89 years old. I miss her terribly and she would have loved these roses too.
They add a bit of color to the room and the gloomy grey days we are having here in Texas.
The color is so pretty in a coral red with tips a darker shade of the red.

These winter roses brighten a new wall display (more about this later)
of vintage plates in brown and black.

To start my redesign, I found a book case to add to my sitting room.
I normally use what I can find by shopping the house, but in this case, I have needed to find a piece like this for a long time.
It was a great find on sale 30 percent off at Hobby Lobby plus I found a small scratch on it and so the manager reduced the price even more. SCORE!!
I never pay full price for anything if I can do better and this was my find of the new year.
It gave the room an anchor and the black finish ties in for a nice flow to the dining room and kitchen which also has black pieces.

Two deep drawers at the bottom can hold plenty of storage and the shelves are all adjustable.
I plan to change the drawer knobs when I find something unique in my junkin travels.
The black finish is distressed with a soft bit of reddish brown showing through.
So with the new start to the year, I feel blessed this new season and look forward to
a year of inspiration found on my travels junkin and thriftin.

I've placed my decorating books to inspire close by ~ and
I look forward to shopping  flea markets~

and celebrating the miracle of each day!

I have no resolutions made to bring pressure,
just thoughts and new goals to try and accomplish as the year goes along.
2014 was a challenging year although laced with many blessings to be so thankful for.
The year ended with a good selling season and now filling the shelves in my etsy shoppe is on the agenda for winter and spring. The joy of creating will continue!
GOD is so GOOD!!
There will be blog posts to write, ideas to share and life to live to the fullest with my family and friends.
Yes~ Lord Willing, a new year and new beginnings for 2015!

Hope to see you along the way, and till then, make it a great first week of the month.

Oh and Downton Abbey Premiers tonight in it's new season ~~~ are you ready???

Blessings Be Yours!

hello sweet Celeste,
Your roses are lovely, not only in their beauty but in meaning. I too once Christmas is put away for another year embrace the minimalist mindset. I refuse/fight/hold off to bringing back the decor that was removed to make space for the Ho Ho Ho/Fa la la.
I too have many changes planned for 2015 to our row-home, many design changes that require work and time. Soooo very excited ...
But first this determined Virgo must rid myself of Bronchitis after flu. In about a week, check my blog I promise a 2nd year of thought provoking, enjoyable posts.
Celeste thank you for doing what you do best - warming our hearts and making us love and adore you.
Xoxo,
Vera

Hi Celeste! Oh, what gorgeous roses and you got a lovely bookshelf too! I'm so thankful for the new year, new start and new ideas. At church today our pastor said he didn't make New Year's resolutions but thought God would want us to start fresh each day. I really liked that and I'm going to try to live that way too. Now I need you to come over and help me decorate after the holidays.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I am trying to catch up with some more of my blogging friends today. Your roses are beautiful and would make this cold day be special. We have some ice and snow so I haven't ventured outside the house. I am glad the holidays are over and hoping to get back to normal whatever that is. So far both hubby and I have escaped the flu bug. I hope you do to. Happy New Year. Take care. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend Shirley

It sounds like you are off to a great start to the new year, Celeste! I just put my Christmas decorations away yesterday and now I am letting (hoping) inspiration comes to me as I decorate these empty spots now. I also want to shop the house as I plan on going through cabinets to get rid of things I don't use anymore.

Good Morning Celeste, Your Roses are Gorgeous!! Such a wonderful Gift! You sound ready to tackle the New Year, doesn't that feel good? After 2 years of living here and seeing what we need and what we don't I am going room by room and pitching, donating and putting away for our annual Garage Sale here. We live in a wonderful gated community with wonderful people but very upscale and snobby rules...wink..

They are a beautiful vibrant color and I agree they are a welcome sight during the gloomy winter days. My niece was born Jan. 3rd! I make no resolutions either at least not openly. No sense in setting yourself up for disappointment!

Good morning Celeste!

Your new find is so perfect to display some of your treasures. What a nice addition! And what a sweet bouquet of roses from your wonderful guy. We are truly blessed!

I've been trying to purge some things that I NEVER use this "new year"... a never ending challenge it seems. We like to pass things on to the National Kidney Foundation for a new life of recycling and reusing. Someones trash is always another persons treasure! Heaven knows I've adopted plenty of "treasures" myself!!

Lots of love to you and your sweet guy! Edie

Wonderful to see that getting our rooms changed around and adding a little new table or a classy shelf can make a room seem remade and enough of a change to inspire some rearranging of our little treasures. But I also have moved many of my nick-knacks off table tops and keeping things clean and simple.
Also, I have made lovely vintage tabletop scarfs for my end tables to to have to see all the dust!
Happy New Year and may this be a prosperous year for you!
Blessings, Roxy

You are off to a wonderful start of the new year, Celeste, resolutions or not! Sometimes after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season we want our homes and decor to reflect simplicity and quiet time.

I really love your bookcase, I often admire the furniture at Hobby Lobby. Hurray for getting a discount. Did you look at knobs there? I recently found some for my bathroom vanity and mirror/chest. Nice and heavy.

The roses are lovely, a wonderful way to remind you of your mother.

Thank you for such a kind comment today. I look forward to our continued friendship in 2015!

Today I am beginning to take down Christmas. It will take a few days, and I am looking forward to cleaning things up, and making a fresh start, too.
Your bookcase is perfect for your house. I'm looking forward to seeing all the inspiration you'll be bringing us in 2015! I actually got inspired by your plate arrangement just now. Mine has been the same for years (I switch out the plates, but the nails have been in the same place.) So now I'm rearranging :)
Blessings to you, Celeste. xo Deborah

Love your new bookcase. I am still looking for a small buffet to put my Christmas china in so i do not have to drag two boxes of it up two flights of stairs! I am de-cluttering also. I guess the older I get the less "stuff" I want around. Your arrangements on the shelf are wonderful! You work with such imagination and you have the knack for proper placement.
I heard you guy had an earthquake between Dallas and Fort Worth? Did you feel it? So it is -15 below wind chill right now and getting colder. Hurry Spring! Happy new beginnings to you!
