Winter is for the Birds~~

Seems I used this title before in a post or two.
What I really mean is~
this is the time of year I love to paint birds.

Well I love to paint them anytime but more so now.

I am working on a few this week and so enjoying the process.
Here are a few from the past and studies I did with some of my favorite teaching book artists.

Cardinals are a favorite and this one was painted sitting on a snowy branch on a wood star.
 Sorry for the  blurry photo.

This sweetie is painted on a stone heart coaster that I have poured  and painted.

Another in a spring nest.
I am  looking forward to painting more of these little darlings.
This little one is painted on an old vintage keepsake box.

This, in flight, Hummingbird, is a favorite study
and the Hibiscus flowers with water droplets were so much fun to paint.
This design is painted on a wood fan box.

This little fellow is currently in my Etsy Shoppe.
Hand Painted on an old vintage dish.

A Robin in the roses is painted on one side of an old wood magazine holder.

The smokey technique for the background is done using a candle
with a silver spoon.
As you hold the spoon over the flame near the surface, the smoke adheres to the wood
in a random pattern. You have to be careful not to start a fire!!!
After you have the background the way you want it,
You seal the surface with varnish so it won't rub off.
Then you proceed to paint your design.

The other side of the holder I painted another wonderful study from Nancy Kinny
and one of my favorite birds along with the Cardinal.
Love this Blue Jay sitting on a snowy branch.
I painted this about 15 years ago.

A little closer look at the smoked background.

Yes, winter is for the birds and my paint brushes.

I enjoy so many artsy works while being inside for the winter months.

There is not a  time I did not have a craft or design to work on.

Do you have a favorite art form or craft that you love to work on during the winter months?

Enjoy the day~

Stay warm and be blessed!

Celestina Marie

You are SUCH a talented artist, Celestina Marie. You just do a wonderful job. Someone sent me a little thing the other day that said when you have a cardinal at your feeder you have been visited by an angel that was part of your life. It made me smile.

What do you paint with mostly? Oils? Acrylics? Whatever it is you do a wonderful job.

Thanks for popping by to visit me yesterday. I hope to be back on a regular basis soon. Just trying to catch up with a few friends now. xoDiana

Just lovely, Celeste! My favorite is the sparrow on the dish. I will have to get my bird feeder up. The squirrels have discouraged me, but I miss all my little birds!
I am thinking of you, setting aside time each day to paint in your studio, and what an inspiration that is to me. And you can blog too. So you're showing me it can be done!
Thanks for sharing your lovely artwork. I'm going now to have a peek in your etsy shop.

All your birds are so pretty, Celeste! That is an amazing technique and I would never have thought you got it to look that way from a spoon and a flame. I was actually thinking about birds today when I happened to see a couple of nests too high to reach in the two trees in the front of our condo. One is quite small and I was wondering what types of birds they belonged to. I also was thinking I need to get some seed out in my feeders!

Hi Celeste,
Your birds are so beautiful. I love the way you paint. As much as I love to paint, I find that my favorite thing to do is paint something and then turn it into a digital design. Creating is a daily event for me.

I love your work.

Beautiful! The work of your hands always amaze me, dear Celestina.
I can sweetly visualize you in your lovely home creating all this beauty.
Over the last year I have come to appreciate birds more, especially since the wild Turkeys are coming and allowing me to feed them. They bring joy and laughter to my heart.
I believe I shall start bird watching as the quiet time would be lovely.

It's always a joy to visit you, Celestina.

Have a wonderful week-end.
Joy!

Celestina, your birds are gorgeous, I love them!
You do such a beautiful job of painting birds - they look so real.
My winter project is clearing out closets, drawers and letting go of many, many things. It's like going to a thrift shop. I have found so many things that I forgot I had. I am giving a lot of fabric to my neighbor who makes lap quilts for the veterans that are in wheel chairs and to children that have cancer. She can really whip them up so quick. Barb has a quilting machine.
Have a great week and stay warm, dear friend.

I can't believe you painted these birds, Celestina! You have such a talent. I loved the hummingbird, and the dew drops look incredibly real. I love the colors of this one, and I think you know that the hummingbird is beloved to me. I also liked the blue jay because I see lots of them around here. The red cardinal you painted was so pretty also. Bird watching is one of my favorite things to do, so I enjoyed this post very much.
