One Room at a Time

Hi Friends~

Happy Spring!
Hope you enjoyed a great first spring weekend.

In my plans to spring clean, reorganize and change up decor  for the season,
I started with my library/family room
and
started cleaning one room at a time.

My goal was to take out all the books from the shelves.

Dust and clean each one.

Organize in piles with book topics.

I have story books and novels, biographies,
gardening and flower books, health, home decor and decorating,
science, how to's, spiritual, political and cook books.

Sort through and box up those for Good Will.

What a job, but so nice to have this done, cleaned and organized back to this.

I love closing off the TV when you don't want to see it in the room.

It would have been nice to layer a few books on their sides,
adding some decor and interest to the shelves
but
this style and the many books here, just doesn't look right that way.

So keeping a true library look was the way to go
for this reorganized room.

Next came the rest of the room for a spring clean.

Keeping it light and bright for reading
and lowering the lights for watching TV or movies.

I love to decorate with books and especially vintage books so
a few find their way for accents around the room.

The colors here are a mix of browns, black, tan and ivory
and then for the seasons, I add a pop of color to the neutrals.
This spring I've added shades of rust, rose and spring green.

The wall color is maple sugar, like a neutral light tan.

It goes with everything and really pops next the the wood work and moldings.

The inset color near the ceiling is a cocoa brown.

Mr. LJ added the new window treatment rod
and I popped up some new large rod styled drapes.
Great for closing on really HOT Texas days.

So glad to have this project marked off the
spring clean list.

The floors are hand scraped and a distressed oak like the cabinets.

I searched for 3 months to find just the right color wood for these floors.

This is the only room of cabinets in the house I haven't painted to a lighter color.

The wood tone for this room just feels more like a library, so it stays.

Are you spring cleaning and rearranging?

Changing up your rooms with fresh new looks?

I guess I get spring fever this time of year
and
make room for change,
One Room at a Time!!

See you next time as I move along to the dining room.

XO
Celestina Marie

Looks great! I go through my books on our shelves once a year or more. I collect so many and it is hard to let them go. It always feel good to spring clean though.

I can imagine how much work it was to do such a thorough spring cleaning of your library with all of those books, but it looks magnificent! I think you made the right choice in keeping the true library look which looks so impressive. You've inspired me to get my own spring cleaning and reorganizing started. I have a lot to get done before baby arrives in July, so thanks for the inspiration!

Your room looks so lovely and I adore that bookcase. I am doing things different this year. I am redecorating with sewing projects first and than spring cleaning that room afterwards. It will take me awhile, but I will at least enjoy it this year.

Celeste,
Talk about ambitious Spring cleaning in your library! I agree with your choice of colors in the room, it creates a warm aesthetic mood and I really like the painted color inserts. Your wood flooring is beautiful. That's a lot of books to wipe and not wind up sitting down to enjoy them during cleaning. To focus and stay task driven is very impressive Celeste.

Vera

I can see that you have been very busy. It's a huge job sorting out book shelves but as you say well worth the effort. I always get the urge to declutter in spring and make a few changes here and there! You have some lovely style books! Thank you for your comment. Notting Hill is a pretty, colourful area which I am sure you would enjoy!

It looks wonderful! I noticed your crown molding is a combo of paint and stain...that might be a solution for the battle going on here.
We have been so sick and still need to get the kitchen painting down before I get to anything else. We are having to pull the leaves off of the beds- the flowers are coming up and won't wait much longer. I am afraid my piddle fartin' over the winter wasn't as productive as it should have been...too much fartin', I guess.

Your book piles look like mine when I organize my books. However, I can never seem to give any away! I have been trying to spring clean inside but it's moving slow, which means the inside won't be finished when I move outside in a week. Have a great day :)

One room at the time... I should have spoken to you before I started 3 room makeovers all in the same week. It had everything to do with a wet paintbrush ... oh well. I love your beautiful library! So pretty! I love using books in decorating too. Pretty drapes! And the shelf color does look good in this room. You have definitely inspired me to FINISH the 3 rooms I've started. Happy Spring friend!

You have such a lovely house Celestina! I went through all of my books a few months ago and that was a chore and a half. A lot of them went to Goodwill. I love vintage gardening and bird books. Those are always fun to look at, so those of course stayed!

Celestina,
Wow, your library looks great! So much work and it paid off because it looks so nice and the books are so organized. I have been doing a bit of spring cleaning myself, but since this is a new home, mostly just decorating. I like how everything looks in your library. Nel would love this room, as she is a lover of books. The colors are warm and just right for watching tv or reading. I see you have many inspirational books. Everything looks lovely, Celestina.

Love how your bookcases look like a library. I got rid of a bunch of books that we didn't want anymore and now I'm having problems arranging the books on the shelves. Tried adding some decor pieces, but I'm still not happy with it.

WOW, that was a big job with all those books. Your family room looks terrific. I know that you are glad to have that room finished.
I finished my guest bedroom (as I had company coming) and some how I always end up putting stuff in on the bed. Now I am being really good and it is clean and clear. Then off to the guest bathroom and my den. That is as far as I have gotten. Did clean out the hall closet and organize everything and made a dish room. Maybe next week will start on the rest of the house.

Kudos to you for tackling spring cleaning! My mother always did it. Unfortunately, I didn't get that gene...and my house desperately needs a good spring cleaning. On another note, what brand is your "maple sugar" paint? We're re-doing an old farmhouse, and that color looks perfect for an upstairs hallway. Thanks so much!

Yet, I feel inspired just seeing what you accomplished and how nice it looks!

What a lovely room Celestina! ....and now it's all clean. Such a good feeling, I know!!! We just tackled a large closet. We aren't done yet. Found lots of old photos, momentos and of course we took time to look through and reminisce. Hopefully we can cross that closet off our list in the next day or two! Enjoy your nice, clean room.

That's a lot of books lady!! You did a wonderful job organizing Celeste. It looks so fresh and tidy. It always makes you feel so good to go through things and sort out what is no longer needed that someone else can enjoy too. Your family room is ready to celebrate spring now. I'm in the process of doing some of the same and it can be quite a task.

Love to you and Mr L, Edie

Your home is so lovely... I love that bookshelf and the fact it hides the TV! I'm a huge book lover so I do the same, try to go through and donate books or sell in a yard sale. Try to have a rule not to buy more than what fits on the shelves :-) That's when libraries come in handy. Already started cleaning here too for Spring, I actually enjoy cleaning and organizing. Have a great day!

What a huge job, but your shelves look great! I don't think I've ever dusted all of the books in our shelves. Yikes! I probably shouldn't admit that. I agree, this room has a library look, and the lined up books add to the feeling. Very cozy and comfortable.
