The Last Chair

The little house could have been a charming chateau or
a small cottage with lace on the windows in the 1920's.

It held and sheltered five special people on a street called Ray.

Age and distress blessed the little rooms, the first of farmhouse charm, before it was in fashion.

A little house called HOME.

A place to gather at the end of a long day.

Filled with timeless treasures and homemade essentials.

Where childhood memories were made, shared and long put away with the passing of the five.

A garden in the little yard filled with roses ready to create a bouquet.

Gathered and loved, in the innocence of the time.
Only stories of this place remain, no photos to share.

Except for the last kitchen chair.

Filling a corner of my kitchen dressed in pale aqua paint.

Still sturdy and strong the way nana left her.
The last of it's set.
The only one to bless another day in a new time.

With many shades under the aqua, with many memories it's seen,
this last chair is my timeless treasure.
The last chair from my grandmother's kitchen on Ray street.

Have a beautiful June!

Celestina Marie

Dearest Celeste -

I can't begin to tell you how this post of yours touched me. Your Nana's chair is so sweet. What a treasure! I have my Meme's last summer kitchen chair that is also painted pale blue, the last chair from Argyle St. I keep it in my studio. It sits across the table from me so I can always see it when I'm working on something. It has Ginko leaves on it which I always loved as a child since they looked like little fans. Her summer kitchen, in her basement, was the unofficial "play room" for my cousins and me in the winter when spending time at Meme's. We loved her so much. I know exactly how precious that kitchen chair is to you Celeste! I love what you've done to give it a new life with you!!

Love & hugs, Edie

Beautiful story Celeste, reading it I had tears in my eyes. Your Grandmother's chair in your kitchen and your heart felt love of it and it's stories.
When I studied Feng shui I learned all natural materials hold energy, it imprints in materials. So knowing this and feeling energies all around me I found this post very touching with all your lovely photos. Celeste I have so many pices my son created and gifted me with, it emits energy and I feel his presence. OK enough of me being esoteric.
Enjoy your week my friend.
xoxo,
Vera

And sometimes those last remnants of a person's life speak the most. Oh I can relate my friend...and this chair is super. For my newest post, I photographed a white chair; I had found it in the trash and it's solid oak and old. I painted it, covering someone's use of this piece, but it's the only chair left of maybe a set...but one piece tells so much.

Love how you painted it....have a super day!

What a special post today...love your grandmother's last chair. Really love the color you painted it. I have an old necklace of my grandmother's...she gave it to me to wear on my wedding day. My oldest daughter wore it on her wedding day and I'm hoping that my youngest daughter will wear it on her wedding day and that my granddaughter will wear it one day too.
hugs,
Cindy
