Tart Pan Ornaments

With Christmas so near,

It time to share 

a few hand created ornaments you can also make for quick gift ideas.

This season I'm putting to use sweet little tart pans.

I find these little treasures junkin and antiquing.

They are perfect to create an original design using 

all those bits and bobs in your stash of craft supplies.

The skies the limit to how you can embellish these little cuties.

So as you can see, I gather up all the tart pans in my stash.

Some I paint and others I leave unfinished.

To the bell shape pan, I add musical graphic paper to the background with stars.

Tinsel and snow with a little tree and reindeer are the centerpiece.

Adding a little greeting at the top with a bough of evergreen

completes the ornament.

To hang and display, I simply glued on a ribbon before I added the evergreen around the edge.

This helps hold the ribbon in place and keep the ornament hanging straight without tilting backwards or forwards. 

 This one was designed using sky paper for the background and I hand painted snowflakes over the paper and sealed with modpodge.

Tinsel, a tree topped with a star and a sweet little hand painted snowman

standing in the snow takes center stage.

To the side of the shapes I like to add lace or more tinsel

after I place the hanging ribbon in place.

This one was fun to create using a felt reindeer 

with a musical background paper.

Tinsel, trims and side lace with snow and word ribbon complete another bell shape tart pan.

For the round pans,

 I again left this one original and just added pretty plaid paper for the background.

A vintage deer ornament takes center stage with tinsel,

poly filling sprinkled with glitter for the snow

and

a little sign saying rejoice added to complete with an ornament to fill in the space.

For the bow I just tied a bow from yarn and added a dot of glitter glue.

To the backside I added more paper

for a little note to be written when used as a gift.

A sharpie pen works great here to leave a message, greeting or date.

To this round pan,

I painted the back ground with a soft sky blue.

The star in the center is cut from wood with my hand painted

country snow scene.

I then added tinsel, a star in the sky, ribbon, lace around the pan and of course,

 lots  of glittered snow!

This last little pan was also painted in an ivory color 

with added tree, glittered snow and Noel message 

in the background.

I drilled a little hole at the top for the hanging thread.

And 

let me share here,

for the snow, I use tube acrylic paint in white.

You can place it  on the area you want for snow applying  it thickly 

and glitter while it's still wet.

It takes longer to dry but looks like real snow and stays in place.

So there you have some ideas for little tart pans

and all the little embellishments in your stash of crafting supplies.

New from The Pumpkin Patch and a Tutorial For You!

Hope you enjoyed a nice long holiday weekend 

for Labor Day!

I'm back in the studio this week after a much needed break and getaway.

It was a wonderful week away 

and I'm doing better with my overused painting and computer arm

doing therapy and icing 3 times a day.

I have to limit my computer time to heal 

so if I'm slow to get around to visit, 

you know why.

Like most of you,

I've also been fall decorating and having fun transforming

Rose Garden Cottage into a fall haven!

Today I have a few pumpkins to share from my little pumpkin patch filling the shelves

in my shop, Rose Garden Market.

Many more styles and sizes are also available in pretty cotton fabrics as well.

These little treasures are created from a variety of fabrics in velour, velvet, knit fabrics and sweaters

I've used real pumpkin stems and wood tree stems cut from short branches.

Here are the directions to create this little gem.

First I made two templates in cardboard from an 8 and 10 inch plate.

I like to use aquarium gravel for weight.

This can be found at any pet store. 

It's clean, dust free and small in size so it doesn't show through the fabrics.

Along with the gravel, I use poly-fill for the stuffing.

I like to use real pumpkin stems when I can 

along with wood tree stems cut from branches,

 cinnamon sticks, jute stems and wood dowels.

Even a vintage spoon can be centered for a stem.

The wood pieces below

 can be found at Hobby Lobby.

The real stems are sold on ebay from folks who farm and grow pumpkins.

Next I cut velour fabric in 8" and 10" rounds using the templates.

With a running stitch  about 1/4" in along the edge of the fabric, I use

coat thread or embroidery floss for a strong hold~

 when pulling together for stitching and closing.

After the running stitch is complete, I add the gravel in the bottom.

A few handfuls is enough to give the lightweight pumpkin some weight.

On top of the gravel, I then add the poly-fill and pull tight the thread to close the opening

and stitch closed.

This step usually requires a back and forth stitch a few times to close for a tight

flat finish.

At this point the stem and trims are added.

For this one I added a wood branch stem and hot glued in place.

A brown sheer ribbon, with acorn button and little stem sign completes this pumpkin.

Here are a few more in brown using real pumpkin stems.

 and black velvet~

This pattern design is easy and quick

 however

I have another pattern created last year

and I'll share that one next time.

Hope you try this little pumpkin.

The sky's the limit to the fabrics you can use

along with the stems and trims.

Designing Boxes

Hi Friends,

Hope you enjoyed a nice weekend.
We cooled down a few degrees with a few drops of rain over the weekend.
More rain predicted this week and we are hopeful.

Recently I was going through my stash of stuff to redesign, 

 and I always find things I forget I have.

It's like going junkin all over again when I shop my store room.

Some day I'll show you that room positioned next to my studio. 

But today I'll share a few box redesigns I had stashed away.

I forgot how long ago I found this wood box.

Do you do that when you find treasures to create with?

Anyway, I've been on a kick to design with boxes lately so  this was a good re-find!!

Starting with one of my favorite chalk paints in sheepskin,

 I painted the whole wood box inside and out.

The lid just lifts off.

I think it may have had a hinge at one time, but I like the lift off style better.

Adding lots of sanded distress gives it some cottage charm.

Once dry the fun began.

I added lace and burlap ribbon all around the sides.

Lined the inside bottom and inside lid top with a pretty decorative paper

and glitter trim.

Next I added a vintage style postcard graphic to the lid on an angle.

It needed a little something, so I painted a few French roses trailing around.

Sealed all and complete for storing keepsakes, TV remote and more.

Happily this box went off to an on line friend Debbie, in our

Embracing Cottage Style giveaway for June.

So glad it has a home and can be enjoyed!

Here's another box style writing desk I found at the same time.

It was painted gold in it's previous life and I nearly passed it up.

Ivory chalk paint with light pink stripes, graphics and hand painted roses and filler flowers

redesigned this one.

Adding distress all around and aged the hinges a bit more with brown chalk paint.

To the inside I added pretty decorative papers with trim to reflect my painting on the desk top.

This also lives in a new home with Jan from Jan's place.

Another below is still available in my shop.

All in shades of tone on tone whites and creams hand painted with chalk paint inside and out.

The lid is designed with crocheted flowers and painted faux leaves.

Lastly, this jewel box below found a home 

and

 several more like it have been requested.

I'm always on the search for these treasures.

It's that time of year I'm working on many projects to fill the shelves

it's hard to think fall, but I'm trying to work on pumpkins and more.
