Christmas in the Dining Room

Setting the Holiday in the Dining Room.

Each year this room changes a bit.
I don't always decorate it the same.
That's what makes our decor fun, don't you thing?

In the window facing the front of the house,
I add a tall skinny tree to give more room getting around the table.

To this tree I have all vintage ornaments from the 40's
or WWII ornaments.
Filled in with vintage snowflakes and large red roses.

The walls here are a lighter color of creamy tan then what is showing.
It's just hard to photograph this space with the light from the windows.
The trim is off white.

This area is looking from the entry and into the kitchen.

I tied red ribbon with greens, holly, berries and  pine cones
to the back of each chair.

The table is set with a mix of dishes in different styles.

The hutch is topped with garland among my white roosters and one red.

Christmas dishes.

Inside the hutch filled with seasonal dishes.

I change these around depending what time of year it is.

My grandmother's tea set from Italy.
I've shared a story about this
 HERE
She also gave me the little Christmas mouse
taking a nap after eating some of the apple covered in snow.
I simply love this treasure.

To the side of the hutch I have a chair that also changes with the season
just by adding large pillow shams.
Just tuck and fit and you have a new chair.

From the chair this would be the view.
You can see the main Christmas tree off in the distance.
So hard to photograph in the evening.
Sorry for the blurs.

A garland of poinsettias layered on the
chandy over the table with crystal drops and silver snowflakes.

A cloche on a vintage redware dish on the side buffet.

Gotta love a little red truck delivering trees.

I change this around depending on the season.
Pumpkins for fall,
Little beachcballs for summer would be cute!

Another Santa I cut and designed from wood many years ago.
He is simply made from a 2x4

This photo in black and white takes me back to
Christmas many years ago.
Remember when we only had black and white photos?
Tell me you know this??
or am I that old?

My dining room is ready to go.
It will get a workout this Christmas
and
I love that it will.
It's not just a room to walk past.
I believe in enjoying all of the home.

Wishing you many happy times this Christmas.

See you again soon.
Have a great day!

HUTCH MIRROR GOES FAUX

Faux stained glass was the makeover for the hutch I painted, antiqued and glazed several months ago. I finally got the very old vintage mirror on the hutch top finished using a faux stained glass process. This was so much fun, but time consuming to get the details straight and balanced across the mirror.

First, I purchased a few stain glassed designs to get my pattern created and faux leading to tie the design together. Next, I worked with my pieces to come up with a pleasing and balanced design before beginning. Once the design layout was finished I began to add the elements to the mirror. This is when you find out that nothing is straight on a furniture piece. LOL So with a little tweaking here and there, I finally got everything to line up and even. The colors reflect those around the room. The good news is, these faux stained glass designs can be removed later is colors or tastes change. I am happy the way it all turned out and after displaying a little Autumn decor, the stained glass was just what this vintage hutch needed.

What do you think? This was a lot of fun to create. I have worked with gallery glass before and find it very rewarding for an instant stained glass effect. It is a procedure that also works well on old vintage windows, wall mirrors, side lights around entry doors and glass vases and trays.

Thank you for stopping by. I always love your visits. As a reminder, we have a lot of fun events going on this month so please check my sidebar at the top for links to giveaways, parties and contests.
Till next time, I hope you are looking towards Autumn days. Blessings always,
Celestina Marie

Monday and a Makeover

Nothing delights me more then painting and redesigning furniture and this one is no exception. Many years ago in the 60's to be exact, my childhood neighbor and mom's best friend was moving from being our beloved neighbor in Michigan to Tennessee. She packed for days and had this wonderful hutch with table and 6 chairs for sale as she chose not to move it.
Mom always loved it and decided she would purchase the beautiful set when our dear friend decided she wanted mom to have it. Of course my mother couldn't hear of this for such a gorgeous set. So they settled on 20 dollars for all. Yes, that's right just 20 dollars between life long friends.

For years the hutch stored mom's gorgeous dishes and held the place settings for many dinners of family and friends in the years to follow.
Now that gorgeous piece holds a special place in my home as an entertainment center and I decided a makeover was in order. Taken from the original surface to a Villa Style Cottage finish. I also own and redesigned the table and six chairs which are now in my kitchen. But for now, this gorgeous hutch with it's orginal mirror, and leading glass doors went~~~~
FROM THIS~~~

TO THIS~~~

Many steps bring the finish to this point. From the brush on base coat, light distress, glaze and lastly float a villa style edge and seal. I love how it turned out and lightens the old world style in my formal living room. Later I plan to design stained glass on the mirror and bring some transparent color to the leaded glass doors. All for another day.
Here are some close ups of the accents to decorate this piece. It will be changed often as I like to update with the seasons and accessories.

Back in the studio now and here is a peek at one of my new design treasures with everything you see included for an instant finished wall display. This will be available shortly in my etsy boutique.

Thank you for stopping by and remember my Spring Giveaway goes on all month and you can enter as a blogger with any post comment and or becoming a follower. Drawing takes place June 1st. For the post on the giveaway gift, click HERE!
Have a special day.
Blessings, Celestina Marie
