Laundry Sewing Room Makeover!

My paint brush has gotten a work out the last few weeks.

I finally finished my laundry sewing room.
Painted and lightly distressed the cabinets a warm Pecan Sandie,
the walls Acapulco Sand,
with natural, ivory and black accents.

Here below are the before pics

Now after painting all the cabinets and adding door pulls in different designs.

For the sewing counter I created a gathered skirt to hide the storage
 underneath.
I shared the chair in another post and you can visit, HERE

This room is long and somewhat narrow, so I have tried to use the space
effectively.

Across from the sink is a small handy extra fridge
next to a pull down ironing center and corner storage.

The tall cabinet is a laundry shoot from the second floor.

For the pull down ironing board,
I have used paper printed copies of clock canvas sheets.
I love clocks and here it speaks, time to iron!! LOL ya right.
No really, I love to iron!!

To the side of the cabinet is framed graphics in black and white,
a french double hook  by Donna from The Shabby Chateau on etsy,
and hanging a vintage checked apron with bird cage tag in the pocket from Wanda in our swap,
and above, 3 gorgeous quilt blocks I received also in the swap
This area makes ironing so much better.

This old drying rack is a very useful
and was created by a friend in the 80's.

Right above the rack is some fridge art
and I will share this how to in another post.

On top the fridge I keep a clothespin basket.

For this I painted a basket, lined the inside,

embellished with homespun toile fabric, buttons and bead trim.

By the sewing counter,
I have everything handy for easy use.
Shelves, storage and organization
help keep things straight.

I also covered the step can lid with  more of the canvas paper
from the ironing board door.
I'll also share this in another post.

On the wall by the chair,
I have an inspiration board.
It is covered with burlap
and a chalkboard stick up by Martha Stewart.
You can find these at Staples Office supply.

To the board I have lots of wonderful tags and graphics
also gifted to me in my wonderful swap from Roses in Winter.
This is another quilt block also from my swap.
Wanda created so many wonderful designs
perfect for my new room.

To the right of this wall,
I placed a book caddy with graphics on the front of each panel.
These are from the Graphics Fairy.

Above the sewing counter I added a faux candle chandelier.
To this I added bead garland from a sale at Hobby Lobby.
It took 3 garlands and the extra was used to top the candles.

Notice in this pic the ribbon valance created for  the top of the lace valance.
I did this to let in more light and not cover the window over the lace.

Every creative room needs a few shakers of glitter
and a dress form pin cushion too.

The black crocheted doily is a gift many years ago from Julie Marie at

Book holders,
Fabric Fleur's in a vase
and
gorgeous French journal
also a gift in my swap.

I'll be sharing more of the journal in another post.
It's just too wonderful, it needs a post of it's own.

Several years ago,
sent me this darling paper doll.
She is perfect in this room.

Behind this door at the end of the room, is the hot water tank.
The wreath here is made from my grandmother's
grape arbor many years ago.
I redesigned it with vintage sewing treasures.

To the cabinets,
I added a different set of pulls to each.

Lastly for the counter skirt,
I used a classic fabric from Waverly
in stripes of naturals, ivory, tan and black.

I created the gathered skirt doubling the size of the counter length and even got a little fancy with the hemstitch.

I gathered the fabric using gathering tape and attached the skirt to the counter
using Velcro. It can easily be rolled open to one side for easy access to
the storage underneath.

And under the counter is this storage.

This laundry and sewing room is like an extension of my studio.
It's cozy and nice to work in.

Now it's another project to cross off the list.

Thank you for stopping by to view my makeover.
I always love your comments
and your encouraging words.
Your visits are welcomed.

Wishing you a great week and Happy Creating.

Very pretty space, Celeste! Your "before" cabinets look like the kitchen cabinets I had in our old house. It's nice to know how they would have looked if I had painted them white. Love all the little elements you added. Your magazine/book holder, those beautiful faux flowers and all that storage you managed to fit in. Great job! I'll bet you love being in here!

I was here earlier this morning, at this very spot, leaving you a comment about your beautiful Laundry/Sewing Room...and decided to check your Etsy shop, saw the SALE and beauties you have there...then came back to your Blog and started looking at other posts...and low and behold never finished my comment!!

Now that I'm back here again, I'm going to finish my comment! :)

I love what you've done with your space - using every nook and cranny available (something we all need to do) and so very nicely too. Of course, that's no real surprise from you. Everything you do, turns out beautifully.

If I could, I would re-do a couple of things in my Laundry Room/Pantry...but it would take money to do...and lots of it!! So, it will wait.

My computer is back - just since yesterday - or Saturday! Some programs are still missing and the recovery of documents and photos has left alot to be desired. And it was ALOT more than OfficeMax told hubby initially. It had to be paid, in order to get my computer back. And it's damaged. Apparently, when removing the hard-drive they laid my computer face down and not on a soft surface - and scratched the black plastic housing around the screen. It looks like garbage!! I've taken photos and the sent them to the manager at OfficeMax...so we'll see what they do this week with it.

Right now, I don't think I ever want to set foot in OFFICE MAX ever again. I'm not very happy with them, in any way, shape or form.

:)

Wow, you sure have been busy, Celestina! What a difference paint makes, your room looks gorgeous! And I must say that it's the prettiest laundry/sewing room that I've ever seen! You did a wonderful job painting the cabinets, it really opened up the space and makes it feel so much brighter and lighter. The knobs are such a fun touch, I love how they are all different! And I love all of your special touches you've added everywhere, like the skirting, vintage fridge art, and pom pom embellished trash can! I am so glad that my fleur de lis hook is getting put to good use, too:)! Enjoy your special space, you should be proud!!

OMG, every inch is gorgeous and so well thought out!! I would love a pull down ironing board, heck I wish my washing machine was not in the garage! You have to have a really fancy house here in Florida to have an indoor laundry room! The cabinets are perfect, you are so brave to paint them, but guess what...It's your room, right! The frig art is fabulous!! I am working this week on something similar a bulletin board with lace pockets...Can't wait to finish! Well, I will quit blabbing and let you get to creating in your fabulous new room!

I'm not sure what tickles me more, the gorgeous makeover, the fact you have a "spare" fridge or how compact your sewing room is. My goodness, I have a 10x12 room for my sewing and I'm still running up against myself at every turn. I love the new look by and far above the old. It's clean, crisp and timeless. Timeless being the key factor. You could change your whole house, as we all know you have many times, and you would never have to change your laundry room. Well, if you didn't want to. :) Nicely done once again MsC. Hugs. Tammy

I wish I had your energy, Celestina. You did an amazing job on the laundry room. My sister would love thIS sewing space, as she sews, knits, and crochets. It looks so charming, and I really like the black and white combination. The paper dolls are sweet. I love everything about it. The white cabinets really do make the whole room look nicer.

You always make your house into a home, a place where your family can rest. I just wanted you to know how special you are for doing this.

Love,
~Sheri

I wished you lived nearby, so that you could give me some ideas for my spaces. You are an amazing decorator Celeste.

Have a beautiful day.

Where to begin.... I bet you like doing laundry in this beautiful space! I do love your laundry Celestina - gorgeous!
I laughed when I saw your step can lid with the little pompoms around the top. My grandmother had a little stool in her washroom that had pompoms around it and I always loved perching on it and watching her apply her makeup - you brought back a very happy memory for me.
You have given this room a delightful make over, and every part of it has something special - wonderful!

Oh, my! What a wonderful transformation and a fantastic place to sew and do laundry! I'd love to have a main floor laundry room and be able to leave my sewing projects out until they are done. I usually sew at the dining room table, so I've got to pack everything up and put it away every time I sew. :(
