A Place for Christmas Dreams

What exactly are Christmas Dreams?

Thoughts of sugarplums dancing in our heads?
or
dreams of health, happiness and a soft place to end the day?

Being thankful for the gifts we're given.

Enjoying home and family appreciating the comforts around us.

And you know,
all that doesn't have to come with a high price tag.
Creativity can be the difference.

The last few years, I like to bring a little Christmas to the bedroom.
It's so nice at the end of the day,
to enjoy a room that reflects the love of God's Blessings.

But who wants to spend a fortune to have a pleasing style or look?

Using what I have on hand or created,
I pull out my old quilt in shades of red to coordinate along with my black toile.

You know I love toile and I leave it as a backdrop year round
just pulling in a bit of pattern  and color to bring the room together
for whatever the season.
I can go from a summer beachy style to Christmas,
 just by changing the color,
pattern and accents,
 all while keeping the toile.

For the holiday, I mixed pillows and pattern by using this old Waverly quilt.

It's just timeless.

Adding a vintage Christmas pin to a pillow gives it a little something.

These hand crocheted vintage pillow cases were designed by my grandmother many years ago.
They are still like new and I love enjoying them for Christmas like she meant them to be.

The tree is a woodland style tree filled with little woodsy critters,
white, silver, gold and red.

I used over sized pillow shams for cushion covers in the sitting area.

This is a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and watch the birds right outside the windows
or settle in with a good book.

The little wood tray holding the teapot and cup is one I hand painted a few years ago.

The tree has little red birds, squirrels and owls along with vintage ornaments and snowflakes.
.

The tree skirt is very old and was a gift I stitched for my mother
many years ago in my 20's.
It took me nearly a year to stitch all the scenes adding accents of glittery threads, sequins and beads.

I gave her this as a gift before Christmas one year and she used it for the rest of her life.

Made from muslin,
it is double lined, embroidery stitched
along with candlewicking knots and edged in red lace and lots of love.

The black toile stocking  was created by my friend Kathy from
Creative Home Expressions and her etsy shop.
I  pinned on a red ribbon for the holiday.

This is one of my snowmen hand painted a few years ago with a black coat.

So there you have it,
a place for Christmas Dreams.
The only purchase was the stocking from Kathy.

I think I can keep the quilt through the winter months.

What do you think?
Could you have sweet dreams in a Christmas bedroom?

Whatever one prefers,
one thing is true.
It doesn't take much to make an impact for change.
Being a Decorative Stager, it is my challenge to see what I can do
without spending a bunch of dollars!!

Mr. L.J. likes that about me too!! ;)

Merry Christmas!

See you next time with more home decor!

Blessings and Sweet Dreams

Creativity trumps dollars every time, and you have oodles of creativity!
Your mother treasured that tree skirt, I'm sure, and it's so good that you use it as well.

So beautiful Celeste... yes, your Christmas bedroom is full of sweet dreams... your red quilt you have had is just gorgeous and I would leave it there all winter... so pretty!... and your grandmother's pillowcases are priceless... I too am counting my many blessings and I think we all need a peaceful spot like your beautiful bedroom to do so at the end of a busy day... your woodland tree is just adorable, and that tree skirt you stitched for your mama just brought tears to my eyes... I am sure each year she used it filled her with much happiness, and still does to see you using it now... much love, xoxo... Julie Marie

Dear Celeste,

I was just about to walk out the door to drive to work, when something told me to come back to my computer. Lo and behold, your post POPPED UP just as I entered my email.

But the true miracle is that your message here is exactly what I needed to read this morning.

I feel as if I have nothing that people want. My home, the way I see it, is gorgeous. But when I take photos of it, it lacks in what people want to see.....lots of antiques, lots of white, lots of art. So I am saying to myself, "What's the use?" "Why share my dreams and what makes me smile?" But your message is something to take with me on my hour drive to teach and fulfill my duties to my household, and that is to work. I wish I could stay home to write, improve, submit to magazines, write my memoirs and even improve some of my art. But I can't. But what I do have, I will continue to use to make the best of it.

Thank you. I don't think you will ever know how timely this post is for me on this 9th of December, 2014.

LOVE YOUR DREAMS! Anita

Just beautiful, Celestina!
I love to decorate as well, but my you have inspired me to try new things, and maybe even pull out some of the items I have not used in years and re think of the possibilities.
Your home is just lovely, and very evident that love resides there.

Merry Christmas to you!

As I'm disabled and spend a lot of time stuck in bed, I ALWAYS have my bedroom decorated up for Christmas. A guy came to quote for new central heating last night, and he said that our bedroom looked like something out of a Christmas card, so warm, welcoming and cosy! It made my day!

Loving your look and envying you your beautiful red quilt.

Celeste,
Everything you placed from your heart in your home this year certainly will create magical Christmas dreams. But what stopped me and made me truly appreciate and feel my eyes fill with tears was the story behind the Christmas skirt you made and gifted your Mom and it's returned back to you.

Oh! It is all just beautiful. I love everything you have there-especially the crocheted pieces from your grandmother and that skirt you embroidered for your mother. How sweet is that and what special memories those things have attached.

You are so right-you can change a whole look by simply using what you have and shifting things around.

While I was "down" these last couple of weeks I did some sewing and I redid our bedroom, too, with a mini-makeover that I will share this week.

Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season so far, Celestina Marie. Love ya- xo Diana

I love your bedroom dressed for Christmas, Celeste! Black and white is my favorite and the toile puts me over the moon. : ) Your quilt is great. I was just thinking this week I should look for something for my own bedroom to use for the holidays. I always see such pretty quilts and comforters on other bloggers beds this time of year.

Thanks for the shout out! The stocking is perfect for this room! I love the touch of the red ribbon you added. It helps tie it all together. I have my own black and white toile stocking alongside my hubby's black and white ticking stripe stocking hanging off the mantel in our black and white living room. : ) Red is such a great accent color to add to the black and white and I do it myself.

Oh My Goodness! Cleste, this room looks fabulous. For Christmas, I also switch to a red and white quilt in our black and white toile bedroom. Yours looks beautiful, and how wonderful to have those beautiful crocheted pillow cases from your grandmother. But the piece de resistance is the tree skirt. What a work of art and love that is. I know your mother was thrilled, and I'm sure she enjoyed using it. I'm so glad you are now able to enjoy it and remember your mother's excitement when she saw your gift. laurie
