Room for Change, Decorating Cents

Do you remember these shows?
I enjoyed them both
as they covered a large variety of styles
and redesigns.
They've since long gone from TV
but they were inspiring while they aired.

I'm about to begin my own room for change
using my decorating cents!!!

If you visit me often
you know I'm always repainting something
when I can fit the process in
after I tend to the store
and fill the shelves with complimentary decor.

While I no longer sell my painted furniture pieces on line,
it gives me some new found time to
paint my home ideas.
Finding the time can be a challenge!!
However~~~
If something sits still too long,
it will get a makeover.
It's only paint right?
And
I've been swinging my paint brush
over the years to relove just about
every piece of furniture in my Texas Cottage.

Years ago I shared these next two pieces
from the 1940's
This style is Art Deco
with a mix of wood design and modern drawer hardware.

In fact,
this bedroom set was my parents wedding set from 1945.
I did try and sell it at one time,
but pulled away from that idea
and
just couldn't do it.

Look at the round mirror and rounded lines
of the style.

We've been enjoying this set
in a guest room for many years
and I left it alone.
Safe from my paint brush
thinking it must be left original.
It has begun to dry a bit from age~
so now it's time for a redesign
and
I know my mother would say.
Go For It!!

So after much thought
and keeping things neutral.

I will take inspiration from the
quilt I'm using for spring,
the chair I custom designed several years ago
and
replanted here in this quest room
from the living room,
and more inspiration from
the pillows I created and styled on the bed.

I'm really finding, keeping neutral backgrounds
throughout my home,
give room to change things up with accents.

Vintage bits and pieces will be a focus here
while I plan to leave the bed's
headboard and foot board
original for an anchor in the room.

Some time it's better~ not to paint everything.

Now the fun begins
and
I can't wait to share the completion soon.

Do you have a Room For Change
using Decorating Cents?

See you soon.

Celestina,
I can not wait to see what you do with this furniture as I have a similar set in my bedroom. It was my mother's, bought for her by her parents when she was 16 years old ( 80 years ago as my Mom would have been 96 years old this year). It is called Water Fall because of the rounded edges. When I was a teenager and the rage was white French Provincial furniture, my parent's could not afford to buy me new furniture for my bedroom. The furniture in my bedroom at the time was my mother's set of bedroom furniture so my Dad refinished it to look like it was French Provincial. I have a wedding picture taken in front of the large rounded mirror of the vanity with my Mother putting my veil on. When my Mother died, I inherited this bedroom set and it has been in our Master bedroom for the past 12 years. I too will be refinishing this set this Spring/Summer. I wrestled with the idea for a while because I had a hard time due to my Father's gift of love in refinishing it for me as a teenager but I know that being a carpenter's daughter, my Dad would say "You go , Girl!!!
So I am excited to see what you will do with yours......

Hugs,
Deb

I can't wait to see the redo, Celeste. The furniture looks much like my late mother and father-in-law's bedroom furniture. Your pillows already look so pretty on the bed, and yes, keeping things neutral makes any other colors so simple.
Happy weekend, and painting, sweet friend! xo

I am sure you will do something really splendid with that room and the furniture. I don't have much scope for decorating in my tiny apartment here, so don't do much. Hugs, Valerie

I like to keep a neutral base too, then when I change things from season to season it is easier to do. Oh my how exciting to take this project on and I can not wait to see what your very creative mind comes up with, you are so very talented and I am sure your mother would be excited to see what you would do with them too, so great you decided to keep them :)

I know your mothers furniture will get a new and most beautiful life after you have used your paint brush and your sense for making everything lovely.
I love the art deco style, but think I would have painted it ,all the same...mind you, not as artistic as you are able to !!
It will be such a wonderfully and lovely guest bedroom when you are finisged in one of my favorite ,romantic, styles.
I wish you many great hours with this new work of art, dear Celeste .

Celeste I love your "go for it" decision and leaving the bed frame as is makes contrast and will anchor the room. I think many would be afraid to paint Art Deco style and I applaud your new project, Looking forward to seeing it. I too am doing a "decorating cents" change in our living room but this one doesn't involve paint. sAy wHat??? Nope, no paint... Hard to believe but this faux painter is just moving things around and layering a bit more. It all started with a rug ... Adding the warmth of rust color to add warmth and well you'll see soon enough. i hint at changes in my post later today.
Celeste I really like your choice of textiles for Spring and your guest room will comfort and impress. I agree with you lots of the fun DIY decorating shows not spending much money have been taken off HGTV in favor of more flip and renovations shows, I love all their tops watched shows and Fixer Upper is as far as I am concerned their most inspirational decorating show to date. Every show Jo Jo sparks interest and new possibilites in our home. Reuse and restyle is key.
Have a fun weekend sweet friend,
xoxo,
Vera

I will look forward with anticipation to your new look.
My parents had that same furniture that belonged to my mother's parents and my husband and I purchased it at their estate sale. My hope and plans are to (with my husband expertise) make a sweet cottage guest room out of our adorable and well built (by my dear husband) shed. I have always said it would make for a darling guest cottage, and that furniture will be prefect size to use. We shall see if it ever gets done. Ha!!
For now~~I have been adding yellow to our kitchen and changing out simple things making it seem new and fresh. Yellow is such a happy color.
I love the way our home is decorated, but simple changes can make such a difference.
As always, you are a joy to visit, Celestina.

Have a beautiful and blessed day.
Debbie~

Oh they are going to be so pretty, Celestina! I can not wait to see your transformation of the dresser and wardrobe! My parents had a set very similar that they purchased when they married in the 40's. My mom in fact still has it. Love your pretty bedding too. I know your mom would be happy to know you are still enjoying their wonderful bedroom furniture, and she would of course say go for it!

Hello Celeste! Happy Saturday!

I think you are right; sometimes it is OK to not paint something, however, I've been having A BLAST painting my French chair! I think I mentioned it to you. It is coming out incredibly fabulous! And talk about change...that painted upholstery really has made a difference in my old front room. I even took out a rug that was in there, traded out my coffee table for a smaller, white one from my studio, and I am loving the change. Sometimes it just takes shifting the furniture around. I didn't cost a thing. GOOD CENTS!!!!!

Hi Celeste
I know whatever you do with this furniture it will be beautiful. You have such a lovely way of decorating! I love the neutrals myself with vintage and have similar colours.
Sorry for my absence but going through the stage of downsizing and moving home sadly away from our glorious property but the work is becoming a wee bit much for us. I haven't stated so publicly as yet but will soon!
Sending hugs and joy for you in your redecorating!

Celestina, your parents wedding set is very nice, and how special it's from 1945. I've always liked the traditional wood, so I'm anxious to see what you will do with this. I'm glad you didn't give it away, it is lovely. Nel got my mom and dad's dresser and she still has it today in her bedroom.

Have a wonderful week, Celestina.

Such beautiful pieces! I love to be reminded of the older styles and that mirror is a great reminder. Your Mom is most likely smiling and waiting to see the finished product. I know the pieces are going to be beautiful...can't wait to see! I think the pillows are so pretty...I absolutely love ticking fabric. I did have an oversize chair and ottoman with black and white ticking slip covers. There was really not enough space here for them, however, I do wish I had kept them. I was in such a state when moving...it was just a few days after losing Abby...and barely remember a lot of things. Oh well, someone else was blessed!
