HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY~2009

When I was growing up, I was raised in a very patriotic family. We raised our flag for each and everyone of our nations celebrations. My father actually installed a beautiful flag pole in our yard that we were all very proud of. In our yard today, we always fly our flag each and everyday. Since 911 we have not taken it down. Our flag is a permanent part of our home. And, if you fly a flag 24/7 it is proper etiquette to have it lit with a spotlight during the night time hours.

The First Flag!

Our Flag is a symbol of service and on June 14th 1777 the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act which resolved that the flag of the United States be made of 13 stripes in red and white, the union should be 13 stars with a blue background. In 1818 the Act provided that the 13 stripes represented the 13 colonies and one star for each state to be added on the 4th of July following admission of each new state and signed by President Monroe. Thus we have the flag we know today.

Whatever you plan for this 4th of July, I hope you have happy and safe times with family and friends and look towards our flag with honor and pride in America.
Thank you for stopping by and till next time, Blessings and Blue Skies,
Celestina

Happy Fourth of July to you, Celestina Marie! I think it's neat that you have a flag out all the time. I did not know about that particular piece of flag etiquette. I'll remember that if I am ever where I can hang a flag! :)

Lovely pics!

Good Morning and Happy 4th to you, Celestina!
We too have a flag hanging every day, with an automatic-on-at-dusk light glowing through it every night. I am so dedicated to flying it that when the last weather-worn flag needed replacing I asked only for a top-quality new one for my birthday this past March (and received one!).
It is so nice to see others who are still patriotic... I too grew up in this fashion, even being at the Boston Pops concert on the 4th in 1976 for the Bicentennial celebration with Arthur Fiedler conducting (setting The Guinness record for the largest classical concert ever with over 400,000 people).

Yes, my hubs is pretty much on top of the flag issues ... we keep ours flying daily with special lighting he set up. He also puts flags in our many gardens for each holiday.

Love your presentation Celestina ... may your holiday be blessed & safe. TTFN ~Marydon

Celeste, your home is just beautiful. Absolutely pristine! I, too, love the flag & decorating patriotically ~ my upstairs gameroom is decked out in red, white, & blue year-round. I've moved lots of the decor downstairs for the 4th, so I'll try to do a post with pics later.

Go visit Amy ~ she has a new post up & credits you with helping her decide what to do with a great piece of furniture!

I think it's a nice . . . wonderful practice - having the flag raised at all times. As much as we have the love of one's own country inside it is still nice to have something of a reminder. Every time you leave or go home you see it..... the passers by also see it and be remembered.

Independence Day is a very sentimental day to celebrate. Is "sentimental" the right word? Cause today, we do celebrate them and yet knowing what our ancestors have gone through just to have that taste of freedom for our generation to uphold is something that just can't be thoroughly explained.

I hope Celeste that your family will have a wonderful celebration and reflection of this beautiful day :-)
