Small Glove Box~ Lacey Redesign

If you have followed me for awhile~
you know I love to redesign vintage glove boxes.

This one was a great little find.
A bit smaller then the others I have found in size and shape,
but perfect  to work with.

In good condition and ready for paint right over the vintage vinyl surface.

So I proceeded to paint this one inside and out in my favorite lace color chalk paint by folk art.

Then with bits of vintage  lace,
I covered the surface inside and out.

To the lid, I painted faux leaves in a creamy white
and add another layer of vintage doilies.

Placing the fabric roses, leaves and trims in decorator cake like fashion,
is pure joyful play.
Romance in shades of white~~~

Pearls, silk flowers, and a few rose gems grace the top.

Inside is lined with more lace and trims, silk flowers and edging.

Fabric flowers in shades of whites and creams for a tone on tone style.
Like icing a cake, perfect for a wedding or anniversary gift.

Beautiful to store treasured peals or a few hankies, vintage gloves or love letters.
For the dreamer in us all.

Lastly, lace edging all around and this pretty is complete
and ready to fill the shelf in my Etsy shoppe.

It is amazing what a little paint and lace can do.
Do you have a glove box to cover?
It's so much fun.
Give it a try.
And
if you have a fabric  glove box, well, you can paint right over that surface too
or let the color show through the lace for a little style change.

Thanks for stopping by
and welcome to new followers.
So nice to meet you.
See you soon.

Speaking of Anniversaries,
I'll be off for a bit, celebrating my 41st wedding anniversary.
See you when I return.

Wishing you Southern DayDreams

French Inspired Keepsake Boxes

Welcome all week long to visit Etsy Cottage Style Blog and the many creative happenings from participants studios called

I've also had some fun finishing altered art keepsake boxes with a little French inspiration.

Each has a bit of Paris chic style with Eiffel Tower, crown, Fleur Di Li's and French postage.

All are accented with my pink cottage roses.
Made from wood and 4" square,

they have glass like knobs on the lid and perfect to hold

sweet little treasures,

jewelry or a special gift.
Each a bit different

with accents in aqua,

soft gray and chic black.
And, of course, pink roses!

This vintage treasure was so much fun to redesign

I shared it last week, created when it was snowing.

What a difference a week makes.

We are now warmed up and tomorrow predicted to be in the

upper 70's.

All these little pretties are now filling the shelves in my etsy shoppe.

Thank you for stopping by,

 and while your browsing,

stop by ECS to see what else is coming from the cottage craft room.
See you soon.

Have a blessed day.

Waking to White, Creates a Glove Box Design

Happy Winter here!!

Yes, this is Texas,

 but we woke up yesterday

to a beautiful wintry mix of light snow and very cold temps.

I just had to share a few pics with you.

 Growing up in Michigan,

I am not new to snow and ice,

but living here, it is very rare.

Pretty white snow on the Palm Tree!

The rose arch looks so pretty glittering with light snow.

Almost like it is in full bloom!

Today makes for the perfect day

 for creating.

I finished a vintage glove box with paint,

 lace, trims and crocheted flowers.
These are easy and fun to redesign.

You might remember the tutorial I shared HERE.
By the time I finished this post and glove box,

the snow was gone and only a memory now.

The cold is still here and our weather people say,

Thursday may bring more of the same.

  More creating on the way.

Stay warm!

Happy Winter's Day!

Glove Box Treasure~

Happy Month of May Blog Friends

This month is beginning beautifully and I hope for you as well. The flowers are all in bloom here in my little Texas town and the weather warmer each day. Soon I hope to be finished with another stage of my cottage redesigns, and I have to say, having so much fun. Going through everything clearing and cleaning out with things I no longer use in my studio and the rest of my home. It always feels wonderful to de-clutter and organized. Oh how I love organization.

Anyway, some time ago, while going through my store room of treasures for creating, I gave this vintage glove box keeper a redesign.

Starting out with the original light green satin fabric, I could see this treasure in a soft cottage creamy white with crocheted roses I made using bits and pieces of old crocheted lace.
I did not have white fabric on hand that I liked for this project, so what did I do? Well, paint it of course!!

With several coats of my signature white inside and out, the transformation began.
I want to say, if you are ever painting on fabric to be worn, like a shirt for example, it is advisable to mix textile medium with your paint first using equal parts, medium and paint before painting on the fabric. This gives a soft movable feel to the finish. If not, the painted area would be like cardboard and not comfortable. Years ago, in the early 80's when I started in business, I painted lots of clothing for customers on sweatshirts, denim shirts and the like and this step was important. It also makes the item washable which you would want.

I usually speed up the drying time with a hair dryer. Can't wait to get to the real fun.

Now moving on, here is the progression of the vintage glove box. This is where the fun begins when embellishments are added. For the leaves I hand painted silk leaves in the same cottage cream. All the crocheted accents are vintage along with the lace ribbon. The vintage lace edging was used to form crocheted roses.

What do you think? Pretty? Remember you can do a lot with paint over fabric. With several coats of paint, drying time and patience, you can decorate a vintage glove box.

Have Fun~~
See you soon.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
