I Do Windows!

Painting windows that is. Well, I have been known to wash a few windows in my time too. But painting is lots more fun, then washing windows. Recently I found a great large vintage window at one of my favorite antique malls. This old window was exactly what I have been searching for to complete my backyard area beside the potting bench. The bench needed something to balance out my little corner for gardening. After much thought and brainstorming, an old window with a flower box was the answer.

First I cleaned it well.

Washing the glass really good.

Then I painted the frame and inside wood the pretty green used on the potting bench.

Next the real fun begins. How do you like how it turned out? I painted the background a soft sky with light clouds, added a vine of pink roses with a sweet bluebird perched on a branch to keep me company when I garden.

Then is was my dear hubby's turn to make a flower box for under the window. I added purslane in 6 pots which fit the box nicely. I want to be able to change the flowers with the seasons. I used a plate to scallop the edge before he cut out the wood front. Again, painted it the same soft green. To the front, we found an iron garden sign at Hobby Lobby for $1.20 at the end of the season sale. This addition seemed to finish it off nicely coordinating with the rose arch in the same iron color.

Now you know one thing leads to another, right? So over the bench I needed a sign. Hubby measured and scalloped a nice sign board that I then stenciled GAREN CHIC over the pretty soft green. Now I think it's done.
To do the stenciling, I make a pattern first for placement. Mark where the letters will go and then use my stencil to follow and paint the letters.

The finished project hung on the brick. Turned out to be a cozy garden spot.

Lastly, I worked on an old chair for my studio. I purchased this great find for 15 dollars (SCORE) at the same antique market. The seat can be changed when I tire of the fabric as I sometimes do, but for now this works nicely.
Before and After~~~~

Okay, look at that chair back. Looks like a nice surface to paint and decorate. Should I leave it or paint it? AHH~~ what do you think I will do? LOL!!!

Of course, paint it!!! Added some roses and a stencil in the center. Now that's better.

Now it's on to more redos and redesigns for my etsy boutique. Thank you for stopping by. See you next time. Blessings, Bluebirds and Blue Skies be yours, Celestina Marie

Oh celeste~ Gorgeous!! I think my favorite part of blogging is finding inspiration in other artist works. I love the window. My Aunt's husband used to take a special paint and do up the huge 4x6 foot plate glass windows and do sceneries of ponds with fish jumping, fisherman and mountains scenes. He was extremely good with his art. I admire it so much how you work with a brush. I'm going to teach myself how to do roses this winter when things settle a bit. I think it would be nice to touch up my favorite pieces.

Gorgeous my friend. Simply beautiful work. Your hands continue to be BLESSED by the Giver of Life. I'm sooo excited when I see others who share my passion for painting do amazing works with the talents they've been given. I love it. I love it. I LOVE IT!

Want to know what I love even more? Your encouragement of me even though we are in the same decorative business. You fill me with grace and have touched my heart with your lovely, inspirational, selfless spirit.

Today I prayed and asked God to bless you 100 fold. I know He will. He already has.

Love to you sister...

Hi Celeste!!
I am very interested in painting some windows. I have 3 very interesting vintage windows that were here when we bought this place.
If you don't mind, could you tell me the type of paint you use on the glass & if you use a sealer. I see some who do this that use oils & I am really not interested in using oil paints.
I would like to use these windows suspended on my back porch. I would be so appreciative of any information you could share.
Your window is adorable..... Isn't it so nice to have a Hubby who is willing to help out!?!?!
Love,
Marilyn

That is awesome! That little garden chic niche in your backyard is absolutely adorable! Love the chair, too! You are so talented!

Hey! Guess what!?! I am so excited!!! I found a fairly inexpensive wooden tatting shuttle and ordered it and as soon as I get it I will be sending it on to you for some of your beautiful painting skills! YIPPEEEEEE! I can hardly wait!

Beautiful!! Did you paint on the glass? That must be hard. And the chair will be pretty in your studio. I am glad you painted the back. Wish I could find a few chairs to paint but it is too hot to go to yard sales so I will wait a bit. Love it all,

I love the blessings, bluebirds and blue skies! That makes me happy! Love all of your projects and how they turned out. I was thinking of doing a window for above my kitchen sink in the condo. I think you have such great ideas!

Hi Celestina,
Both projects could not have turned out better. Your window with the bluebird is darling and goes so well with the potting bench. What a great little area to pot and repot your plants. I love the bronze plaque you put on the front of the window box.
I like the back of the chair painted better than plain. You made the right choice. I love the little roll pillow on it. I'm sure it enhances your work area.
Isn't nice to see things come to life. Whether it's a sewing or paint project.
Have a great week!
Till next time.

Thank you Ladies,
Yes, the painting is right on the glass after proper glass primer. Sealed with exterior satin varnish.

Hey Tatt Chic, I look forward to painting your tatting shuttle. It will be a fun and challenging project.

Hello Celeste,

When I saw the finished window, I thought somehow you painted it in another medium. But you painted it in the glass! You really are amazing at this. Oh and I love the bird - what a lovely companion he is (is it a he? :-) )

I remember seeing your potting table. The window is such a nice addition to it. This is a lovely corner you created. I love, love, love this corner of yours! Oh very much so! LOL

Mizpah,
Li

(almost forgot, that little sad looking chair - You made it cheerful and beautiful too. I can not do that so I always enjoy seeing and admiring transformations like this. And to actually know the "someone" who made this, even better :-) Ok, ok maybe only through blogs but that still counts, yes? :-)

Here's me wishing you also a wonderful start of the week)

OMG Celeste, this post belongs in a magazine. That window, sigh it is just gorgeous, and your husband's handiwork with that window box and sign!!! I love that corner of your garden. Truly this should be in Somerset Home magazine.

Thank you for the tutorial also. I have always wanted to paint one of these windows, but I never thought of painting the glass. The possibilities are endless.

Have a lovely day, I would think you are sitting in your garden with a cup of coffee this morning admiring that corner of your beautiful garden.

Gotta love that glass painting you do! What a fine artist and decorator you are. Also love that beautiful fabric on the chair... and I'm afraid I can't help you with an opinion on that chair back. It looks fabulous to me, but, then again, I know anything you decide to do with it will be delightful.
Inspiring, indeed!
Thank you, Celestina!

Hey Girl,
Great minds think alike!
I have the tea pot, sugar, creamer and a serving tray that matches my plates. I have two pitchers, one large and one smaller, two kinds of bowls, and mugs that match the pattern but couldn't find large plates. I just love the rich colors in them. I had to go to 3 different Ross's. Once I saw them on clearance I made my rounds. We have 3 stores within 20 minutes of me. It was worth the trips.
I first saw the tea pot in AZ, while visiting Ceekay. She wanted me to get it but I had no room to bring it home on the plane and low and behold I found it here when I got back.

I'm sorry you could not get through on facebook. I'm not sure why, but please try again. I don't look everyday but I will see it eventually.
I don't know that much about it. I guess I haven't spent the time researching things - yet.
Have a great weekend. Till next time.
