Repurposed Vintage Sconce

This is one of those great finds

that happens on occasion.

My DH and I were on a

treasure hunt

and found this outdoor vintage sconce

for just a few dollars.

 

The glass was in perfect beveled condition.

 

So with a little vision, we transformed

the one time gas light

to

an indoor

faux real flame style candle

sconce

with timer.

What we did to transform

this treasure,

was to take it all apart

then paint,

distress and

add the black and white paper to the back wall.

 

Before closing the top

we added a faux real flame style

candle on a timer

to the inside.

These are the candles I talked about in my last post.

They are a designers dream to use throughout the home.

 

They look so real and I have friends who have

thought I was nuts to have them close to curtains

or on book shelves

till they realized they are not real,

only look real.

 

 

Love how the old sconce turned out.

Not sure I will leave it here but

I hung it to show you

how it looks.

 

The candle will last about 3 months or more

on the auto timer

 before the batteries need changed.

 

Here are a few more I have around~

from inside the fireplace

to sidelights by the door.

I enjoy a set of these on each

side of the front door

year round.

 

 Yes they can be a little pricey,

but if you have priced real block tall candles like this

you will find they are expensive

and when burned down,

that's it

you may or may not replace them.

And you don't have to remember to

extinguish these.

 

 

 

You never know what great treasure

you will find

when out on a treasure hunt.

 

For this,

something old

meets something new age (faux flames)

Cottage Vintage Style Week

Welcome Friends to Etsy Cottage Style's newest and second week of the month's blog link party sharing our Cottage Vintage Style treasures.

So happy you could join me today as I updated my vintage dining room and right in time to share for this weeks fun from ECS.

My hutch is a treasure and I have enjoyed it for over 30+ years.

 

 Last January, I painted it black with distress and truly love this look taking it from a country style to more of a farmhouse cottage look.

The three glass doors on the top had grids that I removed and recently added some stain glass appliques that can be removed if needed.

Added ivory crackled knobs and carved wood accents to the top and lower doors.

 

The center drawers are the original hardward painted.

The top shares space with my white rooster collection and cloches with white birds.

 

The rose painting is very old and a found treasure from a junkin trip.

The inside stores country whites and glass treasures.

 

Some of the pieces here are 40 years old and very special,

 like the candle holders from Ireland

in the second pic.

For the hutch deck top,

 I simply enjoy a mix of old keepsakes changing this around often with the seasons.

Across the room, sits an old Barley Twist buffet.

 

On the wall above is an old shelf wall cabinet for display and storage.

 

 To the bottom of the wall cabinet I added double pegs placed close together for a creative way to display and hang vintage stemware.

Love the Barley Twist Legs with added distress and painted black.

To the double doors,

 I stenciled a french design and simply set a collection of what not treasures to the top in an old metal tray.

 

 Quick to move away, when I might need to use the buffet for serving.

On the table I set a vintage oval white lace tablecloth that is 40 years old and in excellent condition.

 

 I have enjoyed this my entire married life and love it.

Monday Market in the New Year

Happy New Year Friends,
I hope your weekend was great, safe and filled with new inspirations for 2012. Today is our first Monday Market from Etsy Cottage Style for the new year. Wonderful boutiques bringing you lots of great shopping, after Christmas sales and wonderful finds. Open all week with the list of participants ready to showcase special treasures you might be looking for. Perhaps you are redecorating like I am. Are you looking for the perfect accents? You just might find it here today and all week long. Check back often as new participants add to the shop list as the week goes along.

Yes, I am redesigning once again. It seems I get the bug to redo every new year. My life of interior decorating just can't help itself. LOL~~ So the dining room is in for a remake. It's been 7 years since I updated this space and so ready to give it a fresh new do. This room has gone from country to shabby to Tuscan and now will be more of a farmhouse Parisian chic style in blacks and ivory but still flow nicely into the kitchen decor which is updated a bit too. The lighter looks with burlap,lace, gauze and vintage treasures has really inspired me for winter after visiting 2 fabulous decorating markets over the vacation and the past year. I have already started gathering my inspiration pieces and planning.

Christmas is all put safely away once again. I can't believe how fast the holiday season flew by. Thank you to all who stopped by with your new year wishes. I will be along to visit now that I am back in the studio and ready to swing paint brushes. Oh how I miss my little creative space when I am away from it for too long. Miss B does too. She is so ready to get back into our creative routine and goes to the studio door as if to say, "come on momma, lets go to work" However, we know the work is tons of fun!!

In Search Of!

Welcome to Thrifty Thursday!! So glad you could join me again this week as I share a few found treasures for redesign.
As you know, last weekend was a wash, but I have other found items that are filling my store room and studio ready for paint and brush!

Like this old box. Can't you just see a little shabby rose redo on this one?


Or this wonderful pedestal table. It's ready to go with a nice basecoat.

Look at this pink pedestal candle holder. Great piece for photo shoots.

And, I love to find these silver and metal treasures. These are primed and ready for some paint.


Ornaments fill the shelves, ready to design and pink spoons in the process. Here you see I have sketched my little winter cottage shape. Oh and Santa's get a basecoat too!



Then I found this old wood spoon rack. I will repaint this a soft white or pink. Sweet Home is a metal flower wall accent. I can see a little french chic design on this one.


I adore this little treasure, a table or wall cabinet with a drawer. Here I was playing with a few looks. Perhaps this teapot needs a rose. The vineyard sign was a great find while I was on staycation this summer.

These next few treasures are going to stay with me and found a place in my little cottage for them.
Love the teapot with rooster and a touch of blue. It goes so nicely with my blue willow.

And this sweet rooster teapot with mugs.

Lastly,look at these beautiful floral framed pieces. They found there way to the master bedroom. I thought about doing something with the frames, but they looked fine just like they were. I thought they had old world charm.
